Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
As i'm a rattle can user I tend to get ahead with a few bodywork jobs while the weather is good. This is from Fujimi's enthusiast range as I was unhappy with the recent re-release and cut down version so I hunted it down on e-bay.
I've painted it with Mica Silver and cleared it with promatic (Thanks Al). It's taken three weeks to get to this stage as a lot of preperation was needed.

Looks good D.
The Promatic clear isn't really showing well but then again clear rarely does over silver IMO. (In photos that is)

Thanks Al. It does reflect well in certain light. It's had four coats of the stuff, two misty, and two wetter coats. I dare not put any more on in case trouble starts. I will polish it next week to a brilliant shine.

Excellent paint job! The body and parts look like stamped, laser cut metal. So cool

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
Hi DB, no the colour is there It's just I wasn't satisfied with It's finish, just a dull sheen rough to the touch so I wet sanded starting with 3400 grit and went through the process of 3800, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 then a final liquid polish. It's pretty risky especially with a car with such sharp angles and the risk of cutting through the paint is always there but It's nice and smooth and shiney now.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
I always thought that if you had to sand back a metallic coat, you lose the "metallic" and therefore needed another coat, so I'm a bit confused.
Mind you I never tried it. That Promatic is much nicer than Halfords though it still needs polishing.
Shay.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
I suppose it really matters how evenly and carefully you sand it back. I've had nothing but problems with the promatic clear, It's just not smooth enough for me.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
Is this the normal Promatic clear or the two pack stuff they have in a can that needs to be opened from underneath to mix Dave?
I found the normal single pack clear sort of softer than Halfords and easier to polish out with safe cut/scratch remover.

Thanks all! Wow, somebody must have a lot of disposable income to own that, what a beauty. Thanks for those photos SR65.
DB, It's the single can promatic. Maybe I'm applying it in the wrong temperature or something but It just doesn't like me. I've had better results with the Halfords or Tamiya stuff.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
I found it needed to be misted on with a few coats to build it up, no real wet wet coats. but easy to polish out.
Looks good. Keep going.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
Really nice paint work. I've always had a love/hate relationship with the Countach. The first one was cool, but the beefier add-ons (wheel arches, side scoops, etc) to me made it look less artistic and more "boy racer." I still have a number of the old kits, and a detailed book on how it was built, with factory fotos. Maybe some day I'll . . . but until then, ones like yours here will inspire me, thanx!

Just think of that V 12 as a model in itself Dave.

Re: Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary
Long time has passed. Metallic paints, by their nature of having a lot of metallic-type particles and either less "clear" (enamel, lacquer, whatever) seem to always have a rougher surface. In my building days I rarely did models in silver. I thought the color too neutral and blah, also an artistically "cool" color. My only 2 models in silver were an excellent custom '53 Stude "targa" and one of those cheap $1.49 drag cars with the molded-in frames (the Chevy II is the most common). I did a mid engined Corvair with a fade job front in orange.
Best o' luck on this very cool Lambo.
