1950 Olds by Revell
My take on Revell's excellent '50 Oldsmobile. Its another one thats been on the fringes of completion- I just hate painting the bodies,so they get delayed. Really got stuck into the modelling over the holidays and the muse is still upon me.
A day off work (what little I do) tomorrow so more modelling beckons me thinks.
Chassis & interior is done. The paint is Mr Hobby "Russet". I reckon its perfect for a '30s-'40s & early '50s cars.
A little dull- hopefully polish will bring it up. Gassing out for a month so you won't see much bodywork progress until late Feb.
I'm sure you can wait!

I too have a 1950 Old's to do Chris so I'll be watching your progress.
Colour suits the period well methinks.

Great green Ron. What is it? What other mods have you in mind?

I think it's Tamiya Lime Metallic - the tin's in the bin now, so can't check.
Proposed mods (if it ever gets finished) is to drastically lower the suspension,
and keep the stock wheels and whitewalls, chrome, etc.
It was interesting to find the Oldsmobile had coil rear suspension and not leaf springs.
...you see, buildng kits is also educational !

And a rear sway/stabiliser bar too. But the lever shocks/dampers would have been a worry.

The link above gives a good overview of the cars- and some reference material too.
Lime Green, I've seen it but not used it- I mostly stick to "showroom floor" builds.
That said, if its in 1/24-25 scale & a General Motors product, I'll build it!
Cheers,
Chris.

Re: 1950 Olds by Revell
Interior. Once again, cheap auto store paint, Dulcote & BMF. Don't be thinking I'm building at a furious pace, this has been sitting around since
July last year! ( hence the date on the boot floor) All I've done to this build recently was paint the body.
Since Revell give us a seperate chassis, I thought I'd try for an 'overspray on bare steel effect' I need more practice!
Silver, then a very light mist of gold, then the Russet overspray. In theory anyhow.

No pics, but a BIG thanks to Buck for his tip on using white paint pens to do the wide whitewalls.
Worked a treat & really came up well. Watch for pics in the next few days.
Cheers,
Chris

Whitewall credit goes to you! It's a great tip- flows on well, & Dulcote to kill the gloss. I did them with the tyres demounted, and hoped
it wouldn't crack. It didn't.

The Rocket 88 is looking well - and the whitewall tip sounds great.

I did the same thing Chris and had the same thoughts. I was happy that the paint was flexible enough to allow mounting onto the rims.

Mr Hobby "Russet". Perfect for an early '50s car I reckon. The body is now on the chassis, with a bit of massaging to get it to fit.
Rear wheels moved forward too. The glue is curing there, so I"ll fit the bumpers tonight & BMF it tomorrow.
Should be in NMA by the end of the week.

Thank you for the info, I think a dark red color is great choice on cars, above all old. :)

Re: 1950 Olds by Revell
Paused. I BMF'd the chrome on the left mudguard (fender) last night & the foil lifted some paint.
Throughly (insert naughty word here) off about it. So it went on the back burner where:
1) I didn't have to look at it.
2) So I could resist the temptation to put it under my boot.
I might do some more over the weekend. About an hour with BMF will complete it.
