MG Metro 6R4 (Belkits)
The local model shop nearby closed down recently and they were selling off the few kits they had at a big discount so I bought a couple of these amongst other things. I didn't even know the shop existed until they announced their close down in the local newspaper.
I'll be doing the first one as per box art but the other one I will probably go my own way. I've cut the bonnet out and rear hatch so I'll have to scratch build a few things. This is a really well equiped kit with PE parts, harnes belts and optional parts.
An examination of the body and a quick mock up before tearing things up.
A lot of the detail is molded on and that thick bar is not on the real thing so it will have to come off.
The panels taken off with care. There's a lot of excess to romove from things like the dash so I'll have to come up with a way to anchor them in the future. I'll have to come up with a way so secure the engine too.
Cutting and test fitting, making and adding new bits until I like what I see.
I cleaned up the bodywork and masked off after some coats of pure white. Then I sprayed on the blue and this is where I'm at so far. It's not looking too pretty at the minute but I'll get it looking good in the end.

I always like a good look at my latest build. Two miles to the gallon! I'd still use it to go to the shops.

Looking very good so far, it was a very sad day when they stopped the Group B cars, mind a lot of these ended up on the Rally Cross tracks, so was still great watching them...

The Group B cars are allowed back in Historic rallies these days thankfully.
Belkits have a fair amount of new tool Rally cars with good detail, but no engine as far as I remember and are not cheap at retail price.
Nice work Dave never seen one being built up.
EDIT. I looked at the box art and it seems you have the V6, which eventually sort of, went into the Jag XJ 220. Nice

They are really expensive, the cheapest I've seen is around £45, and they're a basic shell type of kit (no engine, opening doors, etc), I honestly don't understand why these model companies charge so much for model kits, not just cars, but any type of kit, they really do need to start to reduce the price's, otherwise it's just going to be a hobby for the rich...

That looks like good kit, cool subject too. I like those rally cars. Looks like a "Killer B" from the 80's.

One of my favourite rally cars, I’m sure it will look awesome when it’s finished and looking forward to seeing it

I like the engine stand - very clever idea.

"Wire up the dizzy"?
What sort of 'young un' slang talk is that?
When you change gear do you "drop a cog"?
Just kidding. Yes it will be as detailed as possible so it will be wired.

Cool kit. I've always liked the look of that little car. You will definitely do it justice.

Is that fondness to use silicon blue hoses still in vogue?
The spot of colour does help to give an engine bay a bit of lift.

Nice work Dave.
The kit supplied HT leads seem to have little right angled adapter for the dizzy. Is that correct?
