Thanks guys. Erm... I just use Tamiya polishing compounds and there model wax. Though I have also used automotive T-cut on bodies painted with rattle can car paint too. Hope this helps Andy.

Well I have got the engine nice and grubby! I used a more detailed oil filter from the parts box as the kit one was just a blob of plastic with no detail. I'm also very happy with how realistic the oil looks!
Not happy with the rusty exhaust manifold though. Need's more work.
I painted the floor with a diluted mixture of white glue and then used embossing powder for the carpet.
First coat of paint. Looks OK so far I think.
