1982 Ford EXP
Hey guys its been a while. I was over at Bucks Forum and now moved over hear. This is my first build of the year and thought I would go for something a little different. It is going to be built pretty much stock.
Hears where I'm at so far. I have just glued the basic engine parts together, and have started doing the bodywork and general clean up.

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
Thanks guys! Just a question though. Any ideas what I can use for Ford engine blue? I can't get Model master ford engine blue in the U.K and American companies want like £9.00 to ship a tiny bottle to the U.K! Do Vellejo or Zero paints do a similar colour?

I have a soft spot for smaller cars, like the EXP. Good luck and have fun! Sometimes bright colors on bodies like that blue can be hard to cover. Take your time.

I thought that those 2.3 engines were Grey in color. Maybe I am wrong be there before.

What I tend to use is white primer. But don,t know if you guys in the USA can get hold of it so the next best thing to use to stop the blue bleeding through would be matt white as a base then the coulor change on top. It works the same on red which is a pig to cover

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
Harron I shall have fun with this one. Not 100% sure on colour yet, but I did hear a trick somewhere back along for stopping bleed through of brightly coloured plastic. That trick was to use your normal plastic primer, but then spray silver over it then your colour-cote over that. apparently the silver stops bleed through. Not tried it yet but I shall do on this car.
Hey Buck. Hope your good my friend. I have managed to amass quite a lot of reference photos from online and brochure pics. From what I can see, the engines are blue (on the earlier cars anyway) with an aluminium head and a blue or silver rocker cover.
Thanks Tony, I am going to try the tip above though. Just curiosity to see how it works. See what happens. 8)

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
The silver over primer does work Adam, I did that to stop Isopon filler bleeding through on my Chopped 49 Merc Custom.

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
The Net is the single best resource for research. Block is iron so would have to be painted and any medium blue would be fine. Makes sense too that head wouldn't need paint. As for silver to stop bleed thru of bright plastic colors, the does seem smart. I used to put "candy (translucent)" colors over silver or gold and never had a problem with body colors. Good tip! As for the foto of the basic block, it sure looks basic! With a good paint job and nice interior this will be EXPecially nice!

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
Cool thanks Skid. 8) I agree Harron. The net is fantastic though there are still some cars that I can't find any reference pics for. Boyds Sportstar for one! I can't find anything at all on it! Thanks for the tip on the engine too. I have ordered a nice mid blue colour now. Just got to wait for it to arrive!

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
I liked the Escort and Focus, but I have to say the headlight insets make it look like a creation from the "cars" animated films. All it needs are eyelashes. The cars DO have personalities, and as our Dads and Granddads showed, they gave their cars names (some unprintable)!

Nice subject! Cars from the 80s are so often overlooked in our hobby.

Re: 1982 Ford EXP
Not enough progress for any more photos as of yet, but I have been spending quite a bit of time today cleaning up flash and removing mould lines off of a whole bunch of parts! Also removing the plating off of the rocker cover and various other engine bits and pieces. Also shot some of the parts in primer to see how there looking so far. Also decided on the colour at last. Red on red. Should look nice. Found a proper Ford red too.
