Looking great Mike, never thought of using brush bristle, what a great idea.

Well, good news and bad news.
The good news is that I love the new rigging method. It really simplifies the job.
Got a lot of interwing bracing done.
Also got the motor mounted.
The bad news is I should have sprayed over the decals before using. It took almost 4 minutes to completely wet the backing paper and loosen an unused test piece of the decal, but when I wen ahead with an actual decal, it just fell apart when I touched it. I'll probably spray the tail section colors, now, and overcoat the remainder of the roundel decals before using.
Oh well, how often does something go problem free?

Triumph on the rigging. Are you going to paint the flag, if not, Ill have a look for replacement decal flags Mike, if that will help.

Thanks, Gaz. I'm planning to spray it - thank goodness it's a simple pattern. LOL

Re: Airco DH-2 - Pegasus 1/72
Got the remains of the decal sheet overcoated with Testors Decal Bonder. That usually does the job for old decals. But that wasn't the case here. Soaked a roundel in warm water for over 5 minutes and parts of it still wouldn't release, and cracked. So I figured 'what the heck' - I left the next one in for 15 minutes. With a little urging, it broke loose. I did the upper and side roundels and the tail numbers without major problems. They still seemed very brittle when laid down, but when Solvaset was applied, they seemed to instantly melt onto the surface. Never had decals like that before.
Managed to put the damaged roundel on the bottom so I could touch it up with paint.
Painted the tail - the red is slightly darker than the decal. Oh well.

Well that rigging worked out really well Mike, must remember that one. Thanks.
Shame about the decals but a good recovery on the tail.

I prefer the colours you've painted to the decal Mike, the decal colours look way too bright.

The rigging turned out excellent! Sorry to hear about the decal issues, but I'm with Gary in that your painted tail is much more pleasing than the overly bright decals.

I went back to the early fotos and considering all you had to do to get it this nice, it is a REAL triumph! Congrats on overcoming a lot of trouble.

If you think the model is delicate, imagine being at 5,000 feet in a dogfight, straining the wings with wind (and bullets) whistling through the rigging! I'm glad you kept at it. A worthwhile addition to your collection that boosts confidence.
