Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Thanks again guys, the kind words and support are great and very inspire me to want to do much more.
I still have so much to learn about paint and building. I'm kind of all over the place when I build, no real method, which is something I am working on.

Looking for opinions.
So I am in the home stretch on this and can't decide on how to do the bumpers.
The grill and everything that is normally chrome is going to be the same colour as the wheel, Tamiya metallic grey.
I am thinking that I should continue the paint design on the the front end onto the bumper, which would mean a orange top, black pin strip and blue bottom, and for the rear an orange bumper.
Or should I just do them the metallic grey?
Any suggestions?

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
You don't want to make the bumpers too obvious, I'd nearly leave off the front one altogether and paint the back one blue?

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
I like that Shay, I'll consider it, but I'd have to figure something out for the holes. As for not being obvious that was my thought to continue the paint scheme onto the front bumper.

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Front bumper all orange then maybe?
Hind sight is great after the fact, but a molded in front bumper might have worked, I'd still leave it off, no harm in doing a mock up Curt and see what you like, I have spare ones if you need a pair.

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Thanks Shay. I will do the mock up thing, I have another kit too. No sign of those tail lights in the post yet.

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
I too would leave the front bumper off. Maybe the rear one too.
As for the holes, have you got any spare 'bullet' style light lenses that could be used as 'running' lights?

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Yeah ... bumperless for me too with the styling of it, i think bumpers would spoil the lines ..
Maybe some little chrome / polished metal caps for the holes or as Al said, some low level running lights

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Thanks for the thoughts Colin. I really appreciate the input guys. I am going to mock up the ideas and see what I like best. Right now the chrome is in easy off, the shell has had some more wet sanding.

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Thanks again guys for your input on my question. It really helped me to decide.
So I am going with no rear bumper, thanks Sha for that. I'll use the extra bullets, black Chrome trim and a two tone front bumper carrying over the paint design. I am using one of the stock bumper, it will make the front end look even lower and add to the rack of the car. I also layed down some heavy coats of 2 part Poly.
Still need to do the window and door trim. Hopefully I can get that done tomorrow.
I am stoked to see this one all put together.

The way you did the bumper was the way to go, it really brings it all together Curtis. Grille looks great too! You're doing all the right things with this baby. Keep it coming!

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Didn't realise the bumper would sit so close to the bodywork .... so i retract what i said earlier due to lack of knowledge and ignorance and say that looks pretty cool Curt !!!
Is the back one close fitting too???

Man I really like that very cool unique paint job.I like that you incorporated the front bumper into the scheme. The pin striping is really well done too.

Re: Revell '49 Merc.
Thanks very much guys. I am pretty stoked with how it looks. I appreciate the approval and interest.
I ran into a bit of a snag. After wet sanding I cleared it with the 2 part poly. Well I blanked out and forgot to run lacquer through the brush before the filled the cup. I had cleared something last time with acrylic, the ploy partically dissolved the acrylic leaving bits all over the surface. Grrrrr! I had also cleared the Lambo.
I spent an hour this morning wet sanding this and the Lambo with 1500grit. Going to be clearing both soon.
