Opel Blitz Fire Engine
Another stalled build dragged out for the holidays. Was watching TV, with the sanding bowl on my lap, when Alya decided that she liked the box.
Took her out, straight back in. Removed her again, to a huge hiss at me. The old girl was not happy about the loss of her box!
Back to the Blitz, I'm building it as a post war job, in red. The kit has all the parts for the military version, but no decals.
I couldn't not build a fire engine in red now, could I?
I've opened one half of the bonnet to show the added engine detail, I've also upgraded the interior trim.

Chassis done
I had hoped to paint the tank today, but its raining here. The chassis is complete and I'm working on the hose racks today.
Dash decals are parts drawer ones. Not authentic but will suffice. It will be built as my version of a "Custom Cab" ie some extra chrome, on door handles, grill, window reveal mouldings, etc.
The kit should have black mudguards & wheels. I've never liked black wheels so red they are. The paint is cheap auto store rattle can red. Doesn't
react with Italeri's plastic & dries to a lovely gloss.
Fuel lines & plug leads added to the engine, as well as the backs of the instruments. I might get inspired & wire them.............

From memory, they're from a drag/race car. The fuel gauge should read 'benzine' but I can live with it. I've started wiring the instruments.

It's coming along nicely and I agree with your choice of red for the wheels.

Wiring and engine look great, Chris. I assume this is a 1/24 scale model. Who made this one?

It's the Italeri 1/24 kit. They make a 1/35 version too, and there is a 1 /24 tray body kit that can be either WW 2 or post war version.
They're a little dated, but as you can see, build into a reasonable model.
Cheers,
Chris

Looking good Chris. When you said you are off to the beach my first thought was BEACH in January!! Then it dawned on me Australia. You have fun. As for me I'll be looking out the window at the snow.

Re: Opel Blitz Fire Engine
Andy, I don't know the size of the wire, its just strands from off cuts of 12 V automotive wire lying around the house/work.
The 'speedo cable' is the old phone wiring from our humble abode. Black, red, blue & orange to pick from.
Cheers,
Chris
