Yes oh slave driver!!!
This makes interesting reading too:

Been looking at more ref photos and I think I need some heavier weathering.

I skimmed through that a while back (as I do with anything wiki due to the fact any one can edit it), saying that though there's some fortifying evidence for certain dates. And the bit on variants sparked my interest and some further reseach.

Re: MkA Whippet WWI Medium Tank 1918 (German capture)
I made up a cable using the lead wire form lead core carp fishing line but wasn't happy with the result:
The lead is difficult to get bent to the right sort of shape and the eye fittings are way to big:
A rethink was required. Then the penny dropped. What better to represent cable than micro cable. So I stripped some multi core wire and twisted it in my fingers:
Now what to do about those clunky oversized fittings? I Googled 'Tank Towing Cables' and found these 1:16th scale versions:
.... and the penny dropped even further. I hit the Pike fishing tackle box and came up with some metal crimps used for making wire traces when fishing for toothy predators. They are too long but cut easily by rolling under a modeling blade.
Then I thought about using the same wire I use for pike traces for the tank cable. This one is perhaps a bit on the thin side but I'm sure I can come up with something thicker.

Good stuff you got going Al. I think both of the bottom cables look great.

Re: MkA Whippet WWI Medium Tank 1918 (German capture)
They both look good.
I keep all of the insulation I take off any wire, always good for making cable ends.....
Slip short bit of insulation over wire, bend end of wire to loop, slip insulation back to cover loose end.
As it's soft plastic it's more versatile that the solid metal types and you can bend and dent it to look weathered
Simple, no faffing and looks as good as any bought ones

Sorry Al, didn't mean it to point out an error or cause you extra work, I just answered a question without thinking.
Also............ posting some of my work in your thread, a bit rude really in hindsight.
I do like it with the extra log though, looks much heftier!

Haddaway ya daft bat!!!
I'm glad you pointed it out 'cos, although it's obvious, I just plain forgot. I always welcome constructive criticism Colin.
As for your tank photo, wish I'd thought about the canvas around the logs!!! Ah well!!

Re: MkA Whippet WWI Medium Tank 1918 (German capture)
The predator fishing trace wire looked too thin to me, so I went searching for an alternative wire that had some 'spring' to it. The copper wire had virtualy none at all.
I found some that was steel coloured, stripped 25mm of insulation, clamped it in a small vice, then gradualy stripped the insulation while simultaneously twisting the wire tight. The result was a nice tight wind of wire which had some 'spring' in it.
This is the end result, which I don't think is too bad at all.

Re: MkA Whippet WWI Medium Tank 1918 (German capture)
That does look better, sits nicely and natural.
Have you tried twisting your own, just a few thin wires wrapped around a nail/screw in the bench and then use a drill/dremel to get a tight twist?
The canvass is kitchen roll, dampened, folded, wrapped round the poles and then a dark green wash is just soaked in and left to dry.

That's pretty much what I did Colin. The wire inside the insulation was un-twisted.

The resin cans arrived from the US to-day and I'm well pleased with them. Even the handles are hollow. Decals for them look good too. P for petrol, W for water and O for oil. $4.99 for nine plus shipping
Stock photo:
These arrived in the same delivery and while they look good, they also look a bit tricky to assemble.
$9.99 for six plus shipping
Both were supplied by: http://www.milminwh.com/ and I found John an easy and nice guy to deal with.

I think the box will be cool when you get it together.

I finished up the canvas mudgaurds. Thin sheet styrene covered in medical tape.
I also made a tarpaulin for the rear frame to hold. It was originaly intended to be used in my 'Time For A Brew' dio. Rolled up nasal tissue, fastened with 'rope' and dunked in the used brush cleaning bottle gunge.
Finaly, I tied down the netting.
For this I used some braided fishing line. However it was too fine and smooth, so I cut a length, trapped one end in my bench vice and ran a coarse sanding stick over it, until I had a more believeable 'rope' texture.
