Re: BIG General
Almost didn't want to come in for supper yesterday, having too much fun !! Made injector stacks from aluminum tubing. Just right for these neat tops that I found in the salvage yard !
This morning I started on the bases and the igniters. Now I only have a vague notion of the mechanics of FI, but this will be my imagineering version. Fuel comes in below the igniters.
These are made from .030 hex rod with one end shaved down to fit thru a seed bead. The other end is drilled for .015 fishing line. 4 more to go !

Wait a minute !!! Fuel being ignited in the manifold, above the blower ??????? I just now thought of that.
Ho boy !! Too later now. Imagineering at it's worst !!

Re: BIG General
Boy, this conundrum has rendered my brain totally unsuitable for my daily nap !!
How about if what I called those 'igniters', I'll call them electronic triggers that will inject the fuel coming in from the lines below them? Makes a little more sense....I mean the spark plugs ignite the fuel !! Duh !!

Re: BIG General
Time to further un-impress you guys.
The inevitable has happened, The engine had to be messed with to get it down in the bay when I test fitted it with the exhaust headers on. They're the ones that came with the Gen Lee kit. I had to pull the starter off and tuck it in closer to the block. The header pipe ends interfered with torsion like bars that go from the body pan to the spindle plates. I had to take them (the bars) off. I'll put them back after I get the engine mounted. Which means I have to get the front of the engine (pulleys etc.) done before the engine gets encased in that frame cage!! Meanwhile, the spindles are flopping around and falling apart! Argh !!!
Plus, all of the handling is messing with the finish on the valve covers !
I'm a little disappointed in the way the paint isn't holding up. I used expensive hobby shop paint, Model Master, thru my airbrush, and, in the Florida humidity, it ain't holding up any better than cheap dollar store rattle can stuff!
Even still, the engine has to be wormed into place.
So who knows after I get the rest of it done. I may take the weekend off !

Take the weekend off, or work on something else. I have found that if I am stuck on something, I will come back after a break with an idea I had not thought of.

Re: BIG General
I'm sure with your imagineering skills Clay, the final result will be as great as all your other models.
We all get our set-backs but isn't it the way it goes.....
We are enjoying a build one minute then it comes back and bites us the next !

I know what you mean about the paint. Take a break. Go ride your bike that will help.

Great point there, Buck.
I may go out and tackle those electronics on the bike myself. I have been waiting for my Son-in-law to give me some guidance on that. Pity he's got so much stuff he has to do that I'm reluctant to bother him. I haven't touched
the bike since I broke my knee cap.
I'll be trying to sneak in some modeling, but there's a lot coming up. Family coming down from up North for a wedding. Shazz going back with them for a few weeks, so I'll be basically alone for a while. Where's that big smiley with an enormous grin?
I guess this one will do !!

Re: BIG General
The family break should lighten things up a bit and make you forget about the paint for awhile. You'll get back to it then and work your usual miracles.

I know what you mean Clay. Have to install a new battery, tires and tune up on my Victory.

Re: BIG General
Fits in the hole !!!
Now I was ready to install the dist and plug wires, but thought I'd try to touch up those manhandled valve covers first. I can continue to uphold that I ain't a fan of Model Master paint !!!
It tacks up too fast without ever completely drying, it seems, And you can't flow in an adjoining stroke. ! It looked nice freshly airbrushed, but never dried enough to handle! Wish I had had some metallic silver 1 Shot !
But, I guess I'll let this set a while before going further.

Re: BIG General
That engine rocks. I have used Model Master Metalizers for a long time and never had a problem with them. Or if I did have a problem I didn't know I had it.

Re: BIG General
I use Model Master metalizers all the time. The finish can be touchy if handled a lot or masked against. They do make a metalizer satin sealer that helps, although I have found that that any taping on it pulls off the sealer. I just do my metalizers last, and be careful with the handling.
Lately I have been using Alcad with good results.

Re: BIG General
Have a suggestion for your Florida weather paint problems. I assume the paint is not drying to your satisfaction. Try a food dehydrator to 'bake' your paint. I picked up one for $8.00 at a local thrift store and I dry every thing, primers, finishes and art oils. Mine has one 'speed', plug it in, the element hits about 110 degrees F. Overnight my oil painted figure faces are dry (10-12 hours), whereas before 3-4 days.
Cheers Eh!
