Re: BIG General
Ever since I started this engine I was wondering how I was going to do the bellhousing. Thought about just not doing one because it would be behind the firewall and under the floor hump. But then realized, if I was thinking that way, why not forget the whole engine and glue the hood shut!
With that settled, I finally decided to just carve one out of a block of soft pine.
Bwala !
Some styrene for adapter plate and bottom plate, all that's left is to make a pan.

Re: BIG General
Good thought. This is the first scratch built engine I have seen built. Brizio has one in a Jeep the is very small 1/87 scale I think. Excellent work Clay.

Re: BIG General
I've seen one built in a larger scale Camero. Block was made from some hard foam looking material and the parts were made with some fine looking machining.
Don't expect a whole lot out of me.

Re: BIG General
In the last issue of Scale Auto there was an article about using a 3D printer to make model car parts. Some nice looking parts and you can print them out in any scale you want to. I good read With cost of 3D printers coming down so fast I think in 3-5 years there will be a lot of modelers using them. Could flat ruin the resin casting business. I am curious if you would need a 3D scanner of some type to scan in the subject?

Some big city libraries have them for free or nominal cost to use. The catch is having the ability to put in the specs to get one to make it right. I'm not so happy they'll be common in a decade or so. They will change hobbies and reduce creativity and skills many on these forums have worked to perfect.

Re: BIG General
I didn't do any research on trannys. This facsimile is from what I could eyeball from the one in the rat rod. So, this could probably be the centerpiece at a rivet counters convention.

That whole powertrain looks awesome. Hard to believe it's all scratch built.

I'm a bit stuck what to say to express how impressed I am In your progress so far......
There's honestly not that much difference in the quality between this and some top manufacturers offerings.

Lowering front suspension 3/16 ". Just guessing how this will sit !!
Look at how tight the homemade engine is! Past experience tells me that my seat of the pants engineering and no matter the trials an mock ups, final assembling will have me frantically making adjustments.

Re: BIG General
The front of chassis sets alright with the lowered (raised) hubs. Just hope, down the line, the body will.
Now back to the engine. I added more detail to the blower and cleaned it up some more. I had to make the injector platform bigger. I looked at a variety of injector setups, and I guess whatever I imagineer won't be too out of line !
The shaft extension is the horn trumpet from the model A.
