Rusty '56 Ford Pick up Empty Rusty '56 Ford Pick up

Post by Guest Sat 21 Dec 2013, 12:16 am

When I should be finishing off one of my many unfinished models, I started another one.
Going for the rusty theme I started this Revell '56 Ford Truck.
It's in it's early stages, with much more weathering detail to do.
I might leave it as a wreck by a riverbed, or a beater, or with brand new chassis and running gear ???

Looks good !!!
Love a beater pickup truck ! Your start on this looks like it would work real well for a stationary junker.

That looks great Ron, just needs an odd dent or two now!

Ron, that's great weathering. My only quible is the wiper arms.
It looks like its made of steel, not plastic! I think its too far gone for a driver, so I vote for the river bed option.

Cheers,

Chris

Yes, I must agree I should have lost both the wipers and the door handles.
I can still delete them before my planned Hair Spray and colour overpainting, which I'll try next.
....believe me, there are one or two dents among all that rust !

Mmmm ..I may have cocked this up - but it’s only supposed to be a junker.
I got a bit carried away with the experiment and still forgot to remove the wipers and handles.

Experience now tells me Halfords Auto Paint doesn’t wash away on top of the hair spray,
so I wet sanded the panels back to the rust layer.
The rusty holes will need more grinding out, and a bit more detailing.
But now with some top paint on (looking like a well played-with Dinky Austin Somerset)
I think this build is heading towards a complete Barn Find model rather than a derelict.

Personally I think you still have the makings of a GREAT derelict. You have done such a good job on the rust that I doubt anybody would want to take it on as a restoration. Just my opinion though; it's your project so go with what makes you happy.

Hi Mr Dad Sir,

This looks like she could be on the next Fast and Loud programme, they did one pick up that looked a junker on top,, all they did was to give it a quick wipe over and a coat of clear, but, underneath it was all new and screaming...

Thanks all - I still don't know what direction to take this yet,
but it's thanks again to Al, and his Panzer tank, for the rusty inspiration.
I think I'll have to invest in a Dremel Mini Drill, or similar, to thin out the plastic around the rusty areas
now that I'm taking this modelling thing seriously.

Great rustification and paints!! I've been busy with the holidays and missed getting in earlier. With your skills you can go anywhere with the next model! Thanx for sharing an excellent job!

Glad yer carrying thru on this, mate.
More than one modeler has been caught up enjoying this type of artistic venture, escaping the spit and polish plastic toy/model look.
You are doing great !
