Resin body/paint advice needed.
I'm building three resin slot cars at the moment and I'm having problems with the paint.
After cleaning up the bodies to my satisfaction, I gave them a thorough scrubbing it warm water with washing up liquid, to remove the mould release agent. So far so good.
After a thorough drying, I applied a light coat of my usual white primer.... Halfords White.
Seconds after applying the primer it started to look like water had got onto it, separating into 'blotchy' patches.
Thinking I hadn't got off all the release agent, I stripped in brake fluid and tried again after another thorough scrubbing in warm soapy water. Same result.
A member at my slot club informed me that standard Halfords white primer does this when used on resin and advised me to use Halford Plastic primer instead, which I did.
All went well with the primer.
Next I applied a light coat of rattle can Tamiya Italian Red and set aside to try. Only after 24 hours, it's still tacky.
I prepared another resin body in the prescribed fashion, but this the body/primer (the new plastic primer that is) reacted in the same way.
Seems I can't win at the moment.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Al, I have had many, many people swear by Westleys Bleche White for preping resin parts. I do not know if you can get it over there or not.

I wish I could weigh in with an answer, but my one and only experience with a resin body was much the same, and I couldn’t get a satisfactory finish. I think I ended up giving the body away.

Al,
I've never used the product myself I have always had great results with dawn dish soap and warm water. Only once did that not work, and in the purple pond it went. Still have not tried to paint it again.

Sorry Al, gremlins ate my internet and I've been missing
I've heard of the bleche white stuff too Sam, but we can't get it.
Unless it's called something else over here, what it's actual purpose apart for model cars?
I'll try to get hold of the Detroit Contingent in the mean time bonny lad.

That's it!
Not much of a market for it over here really Sam, maybe scrubbing the bodyshell in normal household bleach might do the same thing?

It looks like what the painters I know call "fish eyes" Usually silicone related.
Have you tried a solvent prepwash?

Well, the word from my mate in Detroit is to strip them and scrub the you know what out of them with neat Fairy Liquid and a toothbrush.
The Bleche white is not bleach at all as we know it, it's a degreasing product.
Best I can do for you Al, hope to see the Broadspeed XJC V 12 soon.
