Fujimi Evo 5 GSR 039190
My new kits arrived today and I’m waiting on the GT500 paints I decided to start this. Kerbside so hopefully it will be a quick ish build so I can crack on with the other.
Box art.
I’d decided before it arrived what colour it was going to be so I’ve given it some primer and paint to see what it would look like and I’m happy with the result. Tomorrow I’ll try getting the floor pan and some other things done with hopes that I can clear them all on Monday.
I’m trying different paint atm, Mr. Colour lacquer jobbies and some airbrush stuff from a company called Proscale Paints. New guys on the block but if you give them the RAL code they’ll mix you the paint. I’ve bought some generic white for rally car builds some primers and something called rubber black which is for an upcoming snap fit kit which I’ve had since Christmas and I’ve bought some primers, they seem a bit thick but go on well.
Tamiya pots drying time is ridiculous and I’ve knackered up loads of parts because of it so bye bye to them and hello to the Mr. Colour range.
I’ve never built a fujimi kit before and the flash on the parts is a bit rubbish, I’ll add some pics when I’ve taken them.

Don’t see Lancers and Subarus about these days - must have all blown up, or stored in garages awaiting their revival.
Kerbsides make a nice simple change, providing the paint goes on without fuss.

I haven’t seen either for a long long time. Even back when they were popular i could count on 1 hand how many Evo’s I saw, yet Subaru’s you didn’t have to see them, you know what it was from the sound and they were plentiful. My pal had the estate version.

Yes that Flat-Four has a distinctive sound.
Living out in the sticks, a few farmer lads around where I live are into rallying and have such playthings. I rarely see them (like you say) but deep in the night I can hear them going up and down the county lanes - having fun !

Re: Fujimi Evo 5 GSR 039190
So far today I’ve painted the wheels (twice) and primed the interior.
I wanted a dark grey metallic look to them as I think it will look better.
Mr. Colour metallics Super Duralumin first which was way too bright followed by Stainless which was the colour I wanted.
Also, I may have mentioned this in the past, my kids have a 3D printer, I found a file online of traffic cones and asked for a sample. I got them yesterday. The finish wasn’t great you could feel when dragging your fingernail up and down the actual moulding lines. Fair amount of sanding produced a decent finish.
Primed white so as to keep the reflective section light and I’m at this stage. Now I need some orange and then I was thinking clear red over it to give a more realistic colour than just a red and orange mix. Probably be some trail and error until I’m happy with it.
I’d like to use the Mr. Colour instead of the tamiya pots and I don’t have any orange or red so eBay will need to provide once again.

Yes, darker colour is the best Ash.
I’ve had a couple of simple things turned out on a 3D printer, but the finish is not up to it, as you have found out, but come another decade of investment and progress and they will be well worth purchasing in the future.

Give it another couple of years and everyone will be printing 3D stuff.
From what I’ve read Resin is the way to go but I need a job before I can even think of buying one.
Today I painted the interior, looks ok, won’t be able to see much but it’ll do.
Next up, suspension and decal the body ready for round 2 of the clear.

Interior looks neat.
3D printers have improved since I was considering buying one a decade ago - but still not quite right yet.
Maybe in the future most people will own a 3D printer, just to produce daily items (?) ......and boxed kits will be no more, and you will only need to download an app to print different models.....at a price, of course.

I agree. An follower on X called Ahikiro does just that using some nifty CAD skills and very expensive equipment.
Skills put me to shame. Apologies Ash for hijacking your thread.

A quick question Ash if I may. Do you apply clear coat to seal your decals in or is it done to get more of a gloss finish?

Re: Fujimi Evo 5 GSR 039190
Bit of both really, I’ve a Mini Cooper from way back when I first started and I can see the decals are peeling slightly, there’s no clear on it just red from a spray can. I also have a zakspeed Capri which looks the same as when I first made it that has the 2k clear over the top. Of late I’ve been doing 2 coats of clear, one to seal the basecoat and give the glossy surface to apply the decals onto and then another to seal them.
I’ve seen built models for sale on eBay where they haven’t cleared over the top and the decals are peeling and I’d rather that not happen to mine.
And I like shiny cars

Re: Fujimi Evo 5 GSR 039190
Im moving on with this Evo, the front fogs are done but I’m not happy with them, looks like I should have gone around the lip with the molotow but I’ve put the lenses in and can’t get them back out. I didn’t sharpie them either and now I wish I had. Oh well learning curve. The mesh is in too, on the pics I have from the internet the mesh is black on the front but silver on the bonnet. They only supplied silver so I’ve done that on the top and got some parts bin black for the front.

I know nobody will be.believe me - but I saw a Canary Yellow Misui in town on Saturday.
Classics, out and about because the sun was shining.

Re: Fujimi Evo 5 GSR 039190
beast!
Mines completely assembled now, just waiting on the panel liner to arrive (Wednesday) then I can put it in the completed section.
I had another issue, when I put one of the rear lights in the molotow must still have been wet on that side and when I pressed it a circle has appeared in the middle of the red which looks a bit turd. I may take it back out and repaint it, I’ll sleep on it.
