USS Iowa - Fujimi 1/700 kit
A long time in the stash and a long time on the bench. In memory of Paul Boreel and his model shop amongst the seedy brothels and drug places of Darlinghurst, Sydney many years ago. This kit is a generic model of an Iowa class battleship and is about 50 years old. So with the aid of the internet I made changes to it. I replaced with more modern parts the seaplanes, catapults, the crane, boats, searchlights and radar. I altered both masts and scratch built a gun tub for the second gun. I added life rafts to the sides of both turrets and also blast bags to the guns.
Beowulf likes to build old kits and make them look good, have a look at his Airfix Canberra bomber and Chieftain tank. I like to do the same, anyway thanks for looking.
My mate Eddie supervised the build and it met his approval. Not sure how much he sees when he is sleeping under the bench.
Picture with standard Skids measuring system.......

Beautiful job Chris. With all the detail I thought it was much larger until you put the high tech measuring system.

Beautiful work, Chris. Are the barrels of the big guns molded with an open bore or do you have a method of getting a well centered black dot painted to simulate the bore?

Thanks everyone for your nice words.
Mike, the bores are done with a paint brush, a steady hand and my reading glasses.

Fab work! I enjoy seeing models (military and all) altered to other stages of their histories. Thanx!

I never tire of seeing you complete these ship models. Another fine result, both the ship and the sea she sits in.
