1:8th Lindberg Model ‘T’ kit-bash
Amongst the plethora of parts that I received from Sam, was an unusual roadster body based on the 2 door Coupe by Lindberg, and as Sam also had one he suggested a possible built off.
This is the start of my attempt - I know old Hot Rods don’t suit everybody, but you never know, you could pick up the odd tip.
Apart from the body, interior panels and floor, I couldn’t find much else relating to this kit, maybe a couple of chassis rails and a 1925 radiator.
I’m not complaining as most of this build will be using parts from Sam’s stash, and lots of kit bashing.
One of the items missing was the lower windshield cowl, but there were two from the smaller Lindberg T bucket - so I used one, squeezing the body in get it to fit. Turned out okay, in fact it gave the body a bit more shape.

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
With this build I have cut a driveshaft tunnel, added a console and side panels for the bench seat for the interior. The missing rear body panel has been filled, and a short tonneau fitted.
I want this car low, so I scratchbuilt a new Z chassis to take a low narrowed rear axle on coil springs. I still don’t know where this is going with this model, so what you will eventually see will also be a surprise to me.

Great work Ron.
Love these old syle T's ..... are you going to give it air suspension or just avoid speed bumps?

If you want a more comfortable ride, all you do is drop the tyre pressure to about 5lbs.......simples !

Unbelievable work Ron. Mine will be a bit....lot....slower build, and not anywhere near the scratch building, but I'll be happy with it. I just threw all the chrome parts in the pond tonight. I will post a few picks tomorrow of my pile of parts and what I have started.

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
I think you knew I’d be off on a tangent scratchbuilding much of mine Sam - but hey, if it hadn’t been for the unwanted spares that you mailed me, I wouldn’t have the body to start with, nor the axles, engine, wheels, tyres, etc.,etc.
.....I’m already pondering another build on an original Lindberg chassis to make a shorty Tweedy Pie style bucket T.

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
With the help of layers of shaped plasticard, the interior has been padded out - plus an aesthetically pleasing but completely useless roll bar.
Having chosen the Daisy mags and pie crust slicks that I want to use.....the car isn’t going to be as low as I first thought. How on earth do they get cars that low and still work ? Yep, Air bags, but they still need room to get all the working gear underneath. Magicians indeed.
.....and here’s something that many wouldn’t have expected....a V6 powerplant, very loosely based on the Ford Essex 3 litre

Latest !....I’ve knocked up a slushbox for the V6 - an exact copy of one developed by the Susquehanna Transmission Co. ....well, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Yes, I watch it for the Granadas - but I’ve watched a few episodes too, proper police work, not the kind of stuff allowed now.
I worked with the police years ago for Covert Operations lettering up fake taxis, builders trucks and vans, shops and factory signs, and those officers looked more menacing than the crooks. I was issued with a notice that I had to sign, to not to mention what I was working on, even to my wife, in fear that big operations would collapse if any word got out. 🥴

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
That's funny Ron. With the business I owned, the local police would bring me there surveillance vehicles to work on. They bought everyday run of the mill cars, pickups, minivans, and I would put a double layer of my darkest tint over the factory tinted windows. On the minivans I would also install a cloth curtain behind the front seats that fastened up the interior panels and had velcro for the center seam. This was their favorite surveillance vehicle. They could sit in the back seats with a camera lens poking out of the middle of the curtain and nobody was the wiser. Great fun to know I was one of the few who knew what cars they used.

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
Great fun Shay, the crooks favourite was always an S type Jag. I saw an episode yesterday where the Sweeney were using a Triumph 2000, and knew straight away it would be written off. Most of the ‘Granadas’ used in the programme were basically Consul GT’s with the 2litre engine, that all later became Granadas. But my GXL had the V6.
In reply to you Sam - amazing, thousands of miles between us and we’ve done the same job - although I did my work for the law over three years I only once limo tinted a car for them. The vans and cars our covert guys used were once cloned vehicles that had been seized, with technically no history. They were either crushed or used by the police for their undercover operations and of no other value. I never really made any money doing these jobs because I did it just for materials and expenses, as my small contribution to society. They eventually got their own computer system, and did it all in house.

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
Well, all the Consul GT's were V6 Ron, you could even get a Consul L with the smaller 2.5
Back in the day my old man was in charge of sales in Ireland, his counterparts in Britain all had 3.0 V6 Granadas, but jam jars were so expensive over here, he had to have a 2 litre base model.
It did have the vinyl roof though! lol

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
.....of course I had to check, in case you were just bluffing me Shay.
.....but yes, you were right. (rats!)
I’m probably mixing my 2.0 and 2.3 litre motors....with mine being the 2.8 (3 litre) V6.......I’m an old man and my memory’s going.
....I was right about Consuls changing to Granadas thought.
My more well heeled business partner at the time also had a newer Granada - but his was the 2 door Ghia Coupe in Bronze Metallic !

Re: Lindberg T kit bash.
V6 Granadas and Capris were special order only over here Ron, the Road Tax was mental money for anything over two litres.

A one off P 1800 Volvo( from The Saint...) had an Aston Martin engine twin cam six cut down to four cylinders. More powerful, yes , but too heavy.
Bluff or not Ron? lol

Sounds too weird not to be true. So off the top of my head I’d say Yes it’s true. .....but.... can you really cut a six cylinder block to four with the waterways working ....no, it’s a LIE ! 🥴

I'm working on mine, honestly. I have my frame assembled and have all the chrome stripped off the chassis pieces...but my front axle is now missing. I need to look through the purple pond again.
