Goodwood Revival Race Cars
Watching the Goodwood Members meeting over the weekend on live Youtube was a joy to see. The race packed with just Mk1 Cortina’s was amazing, as was the Edwardian machines. I went to the Goodwood Revival in 2017 with a couple of pals, with Steve taking us down in one of his two 1985 Audi Quattro’s, and as a ‘friend’ of Goodwood circuit he organised the tickets and all the passes. We left the North East at 3am, arriving just before seven - before the gates opened to the public. It was a brilliant couple of days that I’ll never forget - Dan Gurney was there and I managed to get a ‘Gurney for President’ button from him. Having said that, I felt very much out of my comfort zone surrounded by so many rich kids. However, that visit inspired me to build a few cars in 1/8th that could possibly have raced there - a couple of E types and a ‘66 Corvette.
E type No.1 - built from a wreck that had fallen from a shelf.

A 1/8 Corvette Gasser, we need more pics of that please.
Are they old Revell kits Ron?

Re: Goodwood Revival Race Cars
Hi Shay,
Yes, most of the 1/8th models I have are old Revell and Monogram kits, but I do have a Lindberg ‘T’ Hot rod, that I’ve built into an Altered Drag racer too. There are a couple of variations of the Monogram ‘T’ roadster, that I’ll have to get round to showing - several ‘32 Fords, including one with a scratch-built Woody body - and yes, I have a Heller Citroen Avante ‘Normale’ that I have cut and shut to make into the smaller Citroen Light Fifteen or Legere model. That one has been just a week from finishing, for several years now - and a few motorcycles to complete the picture.
But here are a few more pics of the 1/4 mile ‘65 Corvette.....the early shot shows the difference of size, between the 1/8th, and 1/24th Revell Coupe.

I've heard it said that the bigger the model is, the more 'real' it becomes and you really need to go to town on the detail.
Any thoughts?

Re: Goodwood Revival Race Cars
Hi Ron,
I do like the Gasser, I'm not really a fan of green (with the exception of Ford's Apollo green), but this one is rather striking, may I ask what flavour it is please, I have an old part started Lindberg Bull Horn kit and the shell appears to be a very similar colour to the one on your Gasser...

Thanks for the response - sorry if it’s a late reply - I don’t have an iPhone, just the laptop.
The green I used is a Tamiya colour TS-52 - Candy Lime Green, it’s not quite as loud as Kawasaki Green, that your model seems to be moulded in.
As a former signwriter, when you look at a colour circle, there is actually little to choose from, unless it is red, yellow, blue, and their immediate mixed colours. We all have our favourites, and I personally like reds for my own real cars - but for cars that are putting on a show, you have to go for something special, something different.
I built one of those 1/8th. Lindberg T’s while waiting for an old Monogram Big T to come along - they get a bit of stick from some modellers, but I think it is a good kit, old, but good.
But, I’m somebody that just can’t build anything straight out of the box, and this is how it ended up .....🥴

Great builds, and I was enjoying Goodwood via their streaming. The Edwardian cars are insane, and my favourite. Great to see them going hard, not just puttering around in a parade, or stuck in museums.

Hi Shay, in reply.....
Yes these big models are big, but you get more detail in the smaller 1/24th vehicles, so detailing is the way to go. I rarely photograph underneath to show all the plumbing, fuel and oil lines, but I have these photos in my files that will give you an idea of what these cars have underneath.

That's mad Ron, but in a very good way.
The 1905 Darracq at Goodwood that won even had my Missus laughing at the work he was having to do to only keep it in a straight line. Mental.

He deserved a medal, no real seat support, or seat belts - all I could think was ‘oh, my aching back’. Yep, it was great !
