75th Anniversary
For you armor aficianados out there, the month of July marks the 75th anniversary of The Battle of Kursk. Once thought to be the greatest tank battle in history, it has been demoted to second place by a recent study of war records. Still, when over a million human beings, tens of thousands of artillery and well over a thousand tanks go to battle over a single area of land, it's beyond comprehension.
It's believed that Germany relocating Panzer forces from Italy and Northern France for Operation Citadel aided in the success of the Allies in Sicily and Normandy.

I remember seeing an episode on one of the TV histories of the war. We too often undervalue the tremendous sacrifices the Russians made. Stopping the Nazis in a near "free for all" gigantic battle was impressive.

Now, historians are saying it was the Battle of Brody, in western Ukraine (1941).
