James Hunt's 1976 McLaren M23
This is Tamiya's 1/20th McLaren M23. I purchased the model when it was initially released way back when. So this one came with all the body color decals in fluorescent red (orange) and the tobacco decals. Helmet and suit decals were included for a driver if you had one. I wasn't completely sure about the decals, so they were coated with Testors Decal Bonder. The Marlboro decals showed a bit of yellowing and the white portions were a little thin in density. I matched the decal with Tamiya Orange and painted the large portions of the body. Headers were a little tricky. Too high and they obstruct the cooling pipes and cam covers - too low and they interfere with the suspension rods below. Luckily, I wasn't too far off. I also added a bit of white decal material at the base of the windscreen to cover the Clear Parts Cement join line to the cowling.

It was a fun build - kinda tricky, but all F1 cars seem to be.
Thanks for looking and all your great comments.

You did an excellent job on this one Mike and it's not the easiest of builds either.

EXCELLENT work. Decals have been the downfall of many promising builds. Great show! I sure do remember those odd air intakes to the engine box. Luv the entire look. Thanx for sharing, it's a superior addition to your collection!
