Zbuckster wrote:Nice John, What color is that on the Flathead?
Buck: The engine is primed with Tamiya gray primer, then a coat of oily steel. The color coat is Model Masters #28120 -- Fathom Green Metallic. After the paint dried Bragdon powders were applied and some of the edges rubbed through to the steel.

Re: Frenchies Bar
The colours you showed me by PM John, didn't look right, so I think you are right to change.
Is this what you have in mind for the 'lighter brown'?:
Al: The light brown is a shade lighter. It's called Brown Boots. The dark brown is called Leather Brown. I decided to make the change because I thought the original colors were going to make the Coupe look like a Chicago taxi cab.

I agree with John, John.???? LOL
Black running boards and a black roof panel and it's the perfect car for Mr's Frenchie.
BTW, have you checked in the boot to see if she is there???

Re: Frenchies Bar
The 34 Coupe is just about done with the exception of the hood and grill. This is a four part -- very fiddly -- assembly that I have been fighting with for the last couple of days. Hopefully when this latest coat of paint dries I will be able to get it together. In the meantime, here are photos of the latest progress.
The weathering is done. All I wanted to show is a vehicle that has had reasonable care for eight years, but has been driven almost entirely on dirt roads. This is the mayor's car and both he and the Sheriff will be standing next to it engaged in a conversation. That's it for now. By the way, MRS. FRENCHIES IS STILL MISSING!!!!!!!

If you had a corner of a dress hanging out of the closed deck lid, then everyone would know where Mrs. Frenchie was.

Re: Frenchies Bar
The Mayor is having an affair with Mrs Frenchie and he's hiding her in the boot. Goodness this is sounding more and more like a 'whodunnit'!! LOL
It looks just like you intended it John. Nice work.

Re: Frenchies Bar
The Ford Sedan arrived this morning. For the first time in a while I feel I got a good deal off of eBay. I paid $20.49 with free shipping. I paid on Saturday night with PayPal and the kit got here this morning from New York State. To top things off the seller shipped it Priority Mail Insured. Can't ask for any better customer service than that.
The kit was factory sealed and appears to be in exceptional shape for an old AMT kit. There are no apparent warped parts which is unusual for these old kits. So far my only concern with the kit is that the fender assembly has eight ejection pin marks, five of them deep enough to require filling. I cut discs from a 0.20 sheet of styrene using a 1/8" punch and then installed the discs using MEK. When dry I will sand them flat. For me this is easier than filling with putty and then sanding.
I finished the Mayor's car this morning. The third time was a charm on fitting the hood and grill.
That's it for tonight. Hope you guys are enjoying these updates.

The mayors car looks perfect John.
Are the figures pre-painted or did you paint them yourself?

Re: Frenchies Bar
This is my first try at figure painting. I painted everything except the figures with the pickup truck.

Looking good John. The figures are cool. Sheriff reminds me of the guy that used to be in the Dodge ads on TV. "You in a heap of trouble boy." Nice work.

Re: Frenchies Bar
Got started on the Sheriff's car yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the kit; relatively clear sharp engraving and minimal flash.
I'm would like suggestions as to what color the car should be.
My first thought is to paint the fender assembly Black with the hood and cab being White. In looking at period photos though I see that a number of times Sheriff and local Police cars of that era were painted pastel colors. Regardless of the final color there will be generic sheriff logos on the doors and the word "SHERIFF" across the trunk lid. Also, the car will be equipped with period emergency lighting and siren kindly sent to me by DublinBoy (Shay).
Let me know what you think. I'm definitely open to suggestion on this one.

Re: Frenchies Bar
From old films I've seen, most cars were dark colors. I'd choose depending on whether you want it to be an important element or "in the background." There probably are a number of good fotos on the web.
When the sedan first came out I avoided it like the plague, since coupes were drag racing cars. Later, I saw to different look of sedans and variations from race to custom to stock look as desirable and part of the history. Good luck!
