Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
Thanks Ron, I’ll take it as a compliment.
Didn’t know that about paintwork back in the day. Everything is wrapped now, I saw a chrome blue Audi R8 on something the other day and a kid was drawing a picture on it with a key. Very nice artwork for a 6 year old. If that was paint no doubt it would be a full respray, now its pull the wrap off and bang another one on.

Then start another.
I think it is going to look awesome when finished. All the attention to detail is really going to pay off.

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
That’s probably the route to take tbh.
Replacement FW13B arrived last week, not sure I can handle more colour changes just yet.
I hope so buddy, it’s not been the easiest of builds but as always, I’ve learnt stuff and that’s the main thing.
Would like to do a PE set included build next. Simple one colour, few decals with fiddly pe bits but I don’t have a kit to that spec.

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
Well people disaster struck once again with more parts missing from the box, rear lights this time.
This was a part started kit I pulled out of the cupboard which makes me wonder how many more if any, are missing parts. All were new kits when I bought them too but I’ve moved house twice since and stuff vanishes.
Really happy about the paint lines being in line.
Parts left to do, indicators front and rear, foot pegs, mirrors and make that bum bit of the seat (which won’t be done now) and some touching up where necessary.
Disappointing end to a build which I was really happy with. Gutted.
Not sure why it looks a tad twisted, possibly due to the position of the rear wheel assembly when I glued it on, no idea.
Here are some pics

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
So I mooched around for a while feeling sorry for myself and made a brew then sent the above pics to my pal and he said as you guys would.
Can’t you just make some? Obviously I said no
But thinking about it Im pretty sure that I could, misted clear plastic cut down and painted clear red then stuck onto a piece of styrene which has been painted silver or chrome, but chrome is annoyingly sensitive to everything but
How hard can it be?
Found a windscreen and cut some off

Bike looks good Ash - yes, but damned annoying to loose just one piece, let alone half a dozen. But a real biker would want to be out on the bike, so if a part wasn’t available any more, or too pricey, then there are hundreds of alternative parts out there to use - and adapting non-factory parts is all that you are doing. Just like the real thing !

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
Cheers Ron,
I’ve got the new bodged lights drying off.
I made some small squares out of that of windscreen up there. So I plan to mask the back part straight across, put the fake lights then add a tiny bit of glue on the rear to attach it to the white plastic part.
Hopefully it’ll look better than gaping holes.
We shall see, it if works I’ll try and do that back bit of the seat too.

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
To replicate a reflective lenses needs good eyesight - to carefully score a grid on the reverse of the clear plastic before glueing to the plasticard backing. 🥴
But does it really need that ? Only you will notice..
I do like the way that you don’t give up on a problem Ash.

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
Thanks Sam but it’s not saved yet, still time to naff it up
I usually do give up Ron, this is an anomaly. Getting the paint lines across the body with no bleed is my biggest achievement ever, so ideally I want it to be finished and not back in the box.
I was wondering about the grid and no way could I scribe that into the plastic, it’s way too small. But I found this, I appreciate it isn’t the greatest pic but it’s basically mesh from whatever kit, im going to try and glue that onto the back of the fake lenses then onto the plasticard.. probably out of scale but only I’m going to see it.

Yes, I have some of that mesh, and it looks like it might work.

Cheers buddy! I’m happy with it, it worked quite well tbf.. remember it next time
Real ones aren’t flush and pop out a bit but this is the best I’ll be able to do.
Onto the indicators, gotta do a fix on one of those too, I cut the mounting bracket off by mistake.

Re: Tamiya VFR 750R
Thanks people!
Ive got the indicators on and the mirrors, painted the bum bit, Its ended up kinda textured but I kinda like it, see what it looks like when against the seat, if it looks ok I’ll leave it and if not I’ll have another go.
I’ve painted the petrol cap and need to paint the nut which the pipe attaches to and the tiny silver nuts in the rim thing then it’s time to put it together and job done.
