1963 Ford Anglia 105e
I thought I’d start a proper thread, albeit a model I started a while ago, but have yet to finish. However, I got back into it last week, thanks partly to this forum.
It started with a birthday present from my son of a basic RC body of the Anglia 105E - supposedly to 1/8th.scale, but looking like a jelly mould.
Fortunately it is cast in Plastic, not poly or Lexan, so perfect for scale plastic modelling. All the waste had to be trimmed off, and templates made to cut out the windows and radiator grille. The potential was there, but when scaling up the Anglia I found the car to be 20mm wider than it should have been, so like the Citroen, I had to cut the car in half and remove the 20mm, and cement it back together again - cutting out the boot lid in the process.

I loved the things, Andy, great little cars, and if they weren’t so expensive to buy now, I’d have one today. I have casually quipped that I have owned a dozen Anglias, but the true figure was half that, at six - five of which were bought one after another, stripping the previous one of all the best bits and adding to the latest. Two of my scrappers went Stock Car racing

The 105E moulding isn’t sharp, and the flared wheel arches would have to stay - but as I planned to build this as a race car, then it shouldn’t matter. It would be almost impossible to recreate a full original floorpan, but as a ‘Thundersport’ saloon, a space-frame chassis could be the next best thing. I also created the first of several bonnet air scoops, and radiator intake detail.

Gold star Ron.
I'd love one with a lumpy 1600 crossflow bored out to 1.7, 130 hp would be more than enough I think

I really wish the car manufacturers would go back to making "real" cars and not just the jelly moulds we have now, back then cars had character and you could tell just by looking what it was, now they all seem to be the same, no matter who makes them...
Hi Ron,
I really like the spaceframe; do you make a jig when you make these or just bend by eye...

Re: 1963 Ford Anglia 105e
Shay, I wish I could go back in time.
I had one Anglia that I did a straight forward engine swap by fitting a 1500 pre-crossflow, without the need of another gearbox, thanks to it being a 1200 Super. Also dropped it at the back on 2” lowering blocks, and fitted Classic front struts with disc brakes. But one night I ran out of road.....! 🥴
Very true Andy...incidentally, the tube frame is made up from architectural model tubing, which is produced in straight pieces and various radius curves to make up the overall shape - good for exhausts too.

Hi Ron,
I am simply lost for words Sir, this is absolutely stunning, the diff, etc looks like they came from a kit and not something that has been scratch built, I love how you've also included the drain plug on the diff too...

Thanks Andy,
To be honest, I just charge ahead and it all comes out of my head.....but that leads to mistakes, as you will eventually see in some later photos.
.....and the reason why it hasn’t been finished.
‘Fools rush in’....and all that !

Next..... panelwork was created : dashboard, seats, inboard fuel tank - the ‘A’ arm front suspension can be seen, shocks, and front hubs. Radiator, battery and fuel tank No.1. Also in the background there is the V8 engine and gearbox ready to be dropped in. The Anglia without the body is looking very much like a dune buggy. At this point I was on a roll, and only after a couple of weeks of starting, and pushing the bounds of scale modelling towards science fiction.

That is so cool! I personally like the fender flares better than those without. I am glad you had the motivation to get back on this. If you finish this up soon, you know where an extra 32 is laying around.

Thanks Sam......My sights are firmly on getting this one satisfactorily finished, before I embark on anything else.
I’m taking a more laid back approach to seeing the Anglia done - instead of my usual rushing headlong into the unknown.

The Classic Car industry is losing artisans because no youngsters are training up, it's a long time problem, when the skills are lost that's the end of it.
Ron, if you ran a pre crossflow it makes you even older than me!
I formally demand tutorials from now on to explain this wizardry. LOL
Keep it up mate.

Thanks Shay,
Yes, all true - I learnt my mechanical skills on Ford Anglias, which is why I like them so much - so easy to work on,
sadly kids these days can’t, because cars are so complicated. Heck, you could trace an electrical fault by just following a wire - no printed circuits them.
.....and yes, I’m well past three score years and ten. .......wish I wasn’t !

Re: 1963 Ford Anglia 105e
Just to slip in a blurry photo of another of one of my 1963 Anglias....which cost me all of £5 in 1972. All it needed was a radiator and a new carb, and I had those in my garage. Photo taken a couple of weeks after buying it, with the wing mirrors yet to go. I kept this one for almost a year while saving up the deposit on my first home.

Really different little cars. When I was 19 (1986) I found a Hillman Minx...in Wyoming of all places, bought it for $100. I was house sitting for my sister and when it was time for me to head back home to Oregon, I couldn't bring it with me. I still have the repair manual I purchased, and never got to use.

So that explains why you called all old obscure English cars a Hillman in the old guess the car game Sam!

I also have an old, not so obscure, 1972 BMW Bavaria still sitting in the garage in Wyoming. Not sure, but that might be the USA branding. Might be called something else over there. My father-in-law has a 1959 English Ford, two door wagon....left hand drive darn it.

Re: 1963 Ford Anglia 105e
Had to google the Bavaria Sam. that's an old E9 I think 3 litre Bmw, the one before the first 7 Series.
They're usually rotten, but if your one is rust free, it's worth money, not many left.

Just a little behind the rear wheels Shay. It was in Wyoming it's whole life, high and dry. We are the third owner.
Fun car to drive. Straight six, dual carb, four wheel independent suspension as well as four wheel disc brakes. Wish it had a manual transmission, this one is an automatic.

I had a 1971 BMW 2500 in 1977 for a short time, 4 door saloon, the only BMW I have owned - would that the same model of car ? ....or are we talking a fancy coupe here ? 🥴

Quick search says anywhere between 10 and 20 grand for a good one in Europe Sam.
Look it up, the Bavaria seems to be the best version.
Never heard of it before, every day is a school day. lol

Yeah, I heard that their values have gone up. This one needs a windshield and electric fan, among other things.
