Decided to light the kit through a PCB with a remote control mains powered via a 12V DC transformer.
May I ask where you bought the lighting system for this craft? Is there one for general crafts other than Star Trek and Star Wars models?

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Its a dolls house lighting remote system but can be adapted to any model Charles.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
I would also mention that I bought a specific lighting set made for the Voyager kit but as the model has developed Ive virtually abandoned that in favour of individual components (bulbs, flasher units etc) and redesigned the lighting system myself.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Ok. Thanks. It seems a complicated matter. I have no knowledge of electronics and do not what to put down tons of cash for something I won't know how to set up.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Its extremely simple Charles, I have never done anything like this before and I am managing. When you decide what you want to light Ill give help and advice based on what Ive learned. the remote works very well and you can group wires into each terminal.
Your negative wires go individually into the numbered outputs on the board which correspond to the numbers (keys) on the remote. The positive wires can then be grouped into the eight unnumbered outputs. so if you want to control 24 lights your 24 negative wires would go into numbers 1 - 24 and you positives would go in groups of three into the eight unnumbered outputs.
Then when you press keys 1 - 24 on the remote the relevant light responds. they can be dimmed and a master key switches all the lights on or off. Furthermore I am operating a flash card reader with the theme music on from one output (as each output supplies 12V) and flasher units powering eight bulbs from another two outputs.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
VOYAGER CATCH UP.
I have reached a point where I think I can start to repost this build, even though I haven't fully caught up. The rebuild has given me the opportunity to improve many things and this is a far superior model than the first one. (every cloud has a silver lining and all that). Photo etch in, windows and decks detailed, primer and topcoat on the saucer section and the front sensor fitted with its lights.
Apart from anything else posting progress motivates me to advance the build and if your seeing anything which you have already seen, sorry but bear with me.
I have also rethought the sound set up in the base. You may recall I had a pair of 'Chill Pill' speakers which provided the theme music via a card reader with a headphone socket. Having given this some thought I realised that this would mean that the base would have to be opened each time the music was required to switch on the speakers and also to remove them for charging when their battery was flat. NOT GOOD.
I have therefore bought a pair of full range 2" speakers which I will wire to a 3.5mm headphone jack which will remove the need to open the base completely. Why didn't you do this in the first place I hear you ask. I do not know I humbly reply.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
The base colour on the hull looks great! And I commiserate with you on the base/battery connector thing but in my own experience that sort of thing is common. I think of it as the Learning Curve In Action - or as an example of the 'When you're up to your butt in alligators..." thing. Many times I will go ahead with some part of the build only to rethink it later and realize I missed something 'obvious' during the process. It's the same kind of thing as when you're playing Solitaire and a non-involved observer comes along and tells you to put the red five on the black six.
Anyway, it's great to see the Federation Shipyard back in action

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Been busy catching up on this, all the saucer section lights in place. Having thought how best to achieve the coloured (red, green and blue) lights in the sensors I decided to use coloured acetate sheets cut to allow three different sections of the sensors to be lit in red, green and blue by the deck lights. Have also been working further on the lighting system enclosed in the base. Have fitted two flashing units which will allow the anti collision bacons and navigation lights to flash at different rates (speeds). I think this is one of those builds where you feel your getting nowhere then section of it come together all at once. (I Hope lol).
