Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
engines done..........the kit comes with mounts so the air scoops can be in three different positions....wide open, mid and tight.........decided that the port engine would be open and the starboard one in the mid position........the scoops move continually in the race and thought it would look interesting
now i can work on the pod
now i can work on the pod

Looking good Paul. The weathering nicely highlights the detail and makes the whole thing look busy.

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
started on the decal work on the pod......nightmare!!.....and slow going cos theres plenty to apply
the pod has lots of curves and the decals dont like to conform to them........in particular theres a bulge on the front and the decal that goes over it just not settle down despite lashings of micro sol
also the instructions arnt the best
you would think you would put decal number 1 (and its opposite number 7) on first.....specially since they are the ones that go at the front of the stripes..........but 6 and 8 have to go on first so the yellow bits on 1 and 7 over lap!......shame they dont say this on the instructions...........but ive got a plan to bodge round it although i will have to trim a bit off the stripes

Me and decals get along like oil and water. Thanks for the heads up in this one. At least I will know it's coming.

not as neat as i would have liked......feels like ive used a gallon of micro sol and they still not gone down how i would have liked
going to give it a day and then give it a coat of varnish to seal

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
so the pod is almost finished....just got to add some antenna bits and the cables that link the pod to the engines
who ever designed this kit obviously never built it!!
the screen is a clear bit of flexible plastic that has a small tab that is inserted in a hole at the centre and then curved round on both sides...........but theres no way to fix it!......even if i had used ca it would have made a real mess and i doubt it would have stayed put due to the tension it would be under.............so i made another screen which is about 5mm lower, folds back just a little lower and snicks in place in a recess, the wanting to flex outwards holds it in place...........it may be a little lower but i prefer that to making a mess of the whole thing trying to glue in the original
next thing is trying to attach the cables tween the pod and engines.............ive tried a dummy run and guess what.......they dont fit!! lol

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
and finished!
been kind of annoying.....work for 4 days then 4 days away in norfolk, not been able to get on with this.....and if i hadnt made the effort to do the last 20 minutes worth of work tonight it would have been another 4 days as im back to work tomorrow lol lol
getting the control cables to attach was a bit of a pain........ended up shaving some off to try and get them to sit better, and then had to drill a tiny hole and insert a pin to locate in a hole in the engine
to give you an idea of the size, its 17 inch/41 cm long.....that long i had probs taking a pic....couldnt use my normal light cube and just stick it on the coffee table lol
lord knows where im going to put it....its too big to fit in my display cases!
more pics in the finished thread

Just caught up with this.
Don't you just love decals that won't respont to MS!!!
Anyway, it's looking good Paul and it must be bigger thatn the AMT Stap and droid, if it won't fit in an Ikea display cabinet!!
