This is an old idea of mine but I feel it needs repeating.

For "smoke" tinted windows buy a roll of black & white film and give it right back to the sales clerk for developing. You may get a "funny look" from the clerk but you will have about 2 feet of window material when the film is returned.

If you want a yellowish brown tint do the same as above but use color film instead.
