Unyo - Japanese Escort Carrier - Aoshima 1/700
Finished this one last week. One of Aoshima's early jobs. Replaced all the AA guns with more recent spares I had, the old ones needed updating. I chiselled away much of the flight decks raised detail along the edges and also line markings. The line markings are from a Fujimi decal set for Japanese aircraft carriers. I experimented and tried to clear coat the deck with an acrylic varnish but the results were not as good as I had hoped.
The Unyo was originally a passenger liner and I have a 'before and after' photo of the Yawata Maru before its conversion to the Unyo. There are virtually no reference pictures of the ship and so the camourflage is my interpretation based on the the other carriers of the IJN. Anyway here she is....

Now that is a cool subject. A passenger liner converted to an aircraft carrier. Great work Chris !

This is some spectacular work! This is amazing seeing the before and after sitting side by side. Great work! You are a true artist at this scale.

As always, I love your work Chris but how on earth you get decals on 1/700 scale aircraft is beyond me!

Colors are a problem for reference as they changed some and like the aircraft, varied from nation to nation. The Japanese carriers were very different looking from the familiar U.S. ones. Your extra work looks fine to me. Some of the "in water" dioramas in the small scales look fantastic.

I think your work is great. I don't know much about the ships, but man you do good work.
