Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
What can a guy say about this Ron......... It's quite simply OUTSTANDING scratch building. Truly stunning.

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
Thanks Al....I’m normally super quick with my builds, but I don’t think this one will be finished this year.
....and so, the Big Jeep plods on.
More minor details have been added, plus spare wheel and jerry can and carrier, springs and spring hangers too - it took me a full day to make those brackets, and it’s all going a bit too slow for me.
As I add more parts I find I’m a little bit out in size in just about everything. 1/16th off can make a huge difference when everything else is knocked out of proportion - but it’s almost impossible to build everything to scale with plastic sheet, and certain parts need beefing up to work.
Next ? .....axles, I think. The springs still need shackles, and straps for which I’ll use brass foil, and I’ve still got the ‘bendy’ bonnet/hood to work out, and a million other little details.
Ahhhhh, the joy of the build !

Me too Sam.
I couldn't match this in a year!........ hell, make that ever.
How on Earth did you make the Jerry can Ron?

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
Cheers !
The can is simpler than it looks.
I cut two profiles of each side and boxed it in - a little more difficult with the smaller pieces for the filler and handle areas, and used tubing for the handles, and sanded to shape.
With the impressed sides....I took two separate pieces of thinner plasticard, then cut out the diagonal design, and glued that to the can.
I still have to fill and sand the edges to give it a more rounded appearance. Simple at this scale.

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
My enthusiasm for the Jeep has waned lately, but I have progressed in modifying the Citroen seat frames, and built up the pads with layers of sheet plasticard that I have filed and sanded back to shape, adding creases.
I’m still trying to figure out how to make the pair of complicated differential housings and front drive hubs - but Lego make driveshaft couplings that I might have to employ if I really get stuck.
Until I get my photo uploading sorted, I’ll post this link to Pinterest - hope it works.

It’s good to know it works, but a pity it can’t be viewed on the forum.
Thanks Sam.

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
The 1/8th Jeep has stalled, simply because I can’t get back to my bench to spend enough time creating new parts. I’m thinking that I might have to form the bonnet/hood from alloy sheet, as well as the adjacent front windshield panel as I can’t work out how to shape sheet plastic. 🥴
.....and the vehicle that I’m getting the dimensions from - the 1/16th scale Jeep is stalled too, in it’s different sub divisions awaiting paint. 🥴

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
I have seen different modelers use pop cans for forming parts like that.

Good point Sam, although I do have some brass sheet left, but I was hoping to acquire something a little thicker.

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
Thanks Chris,.
......and in case you missed it, a few years ago I built a CMP Chevy truck in 1/8th scale to fit a RC chassis - which I believe were quite common in OZ after World War 2 - as they were here in the UK, and were bought via Army Surplus for carrying general freight, builders materials and breakdown recovery trucks.
The Jeep should make a good companion to the CMP, but because I can’t source appropriate military pattern tyres it’s going to have to be a civilian version : bigger headlamps and a one piece screen.

Re: 1942 Willys Jeep.
I accompanied my wife into town this morning and bought more Plasticard sheet, Evergreen tube and rod, plus aluminium sheet to try and form the Jeep hood and continue with the 1/8th build.
......couldn’t stop myself from buying four gasser Hot Wheels too - while my wife bought cushions and curtains !
