Hasegawa Toyota 88C
This is my new project. I already like this kit better than that bike kit I just finished. I never built a Hasegawa kit before. I see many of them are curbside as this on is. But it looks nicely detailed for the body. It will require a bit of work painting the body. First I completed the chassis pan. That was only a little longer than a one day build. Here's the box art and then the pan photos:

Basic floorplan, but you've done what you've could. The paint wear near the gear lever is a good touch.

Nice start. The little details are great, I especially like the harness.

Here's a little additional progress. I painted the body in white along with the spoiler. The body will have to be masked later to get the red portion painted. I use Grex Tritium airbrush It has very fine atomization. You have to make the paint really thin like Testors Mertallizer or AlClad colors. I always found white to be a color that will orange peel. But this way it lays down smooth. It still needs some polishing before I apply the red. I also started painting the wheels. Looks like it needs another coat of white. But it laid down really smooth on the wheels. So here's some pictures:
Those back panels look a little yellowish, that's just the lighting.

Nice job with the paint - I know from experience how fussy white paint can be. One thing - I always lay down an extra coat or two of lighter colours/tones just on principle but I can be obsessive to the point of neuroses. Looking forward to watching this develop.

Here's the door windows. The kit comes with white decals for it but they don't exactly match the white paint, and laying them down smoothly wouldn't be fun. It just seemed easier and better to mask and pain them. I used an art type ink pen to do the black squares where the mirrors will mount. I have this really good tape I get from work for masking the sharp edges. It's a teflon tape. The adhesive isn't too strong, it's translucent and I cut strips off of it. It follows contours real nice and can easily be stretched to make curves as you've seen on the body masking pictures:

Here's a few more details, the dashboard and the tires. I had trouble with the tire decals as they must have been too fragile from age. But I am putting on the body decals now and they seem to be just fine. When I painted the wheels I didn't know if I would be able to do those tiny wheel nuts along the rim but they turned out to be pretty easy.

Great progress! Too bad about the wheel decals but it looks like a little spot work with paint ought to cover up the minor flaws easily. The dash and steering wheel look very nice.
