1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS
This is the Monogram 1/25 version of this car. 130 parts count.
I am not using the kit wheels, I have left over wheels from the Fujimi 356 I am going to use.
I will use the hub assemblies from the Fujimi kit too in order to mount the better wheels and adjust the ride height.
I am not going to paint it like the the box art. This will be more of some rich guy's track day car.
I have started putting it together and I forgot to take sprue shots... again... sorry.
First order of business is to add some detail to the bottom of the crank case. It shows through the bottom chassis plate and I don't think it should just be a smooth blob. I used some .4 mm rod to give it some detail. I have no idea what the bottom of the Porsche crank case really looks like so I just made something up.
I am going to have to use the kit tires because while the Fujimi kit comes with two sets of wheels it only comes with one set of tires. The Monogram tires are too small to fit the wheels so I cut out the inner rib in the tire and made it flat on the inside. Then I soaked the tires in hot water. That made them soft enough to slip over the wheels.
The wheels are not perfectly straight themselves and makes the tread of the tires angled and or wider at the inside than on the outside edge. So I had to sand them down with the Dremmel to get them straight.
I lost the middle piece of the air shroud so I just made one out of sheet styrene. I am going to add some ignition coils and wire the engine. I am going to cut off the top of the carbs and use metal ferrules for the intakes.
Here is my progress so far.

The body has some sink marks and some molded in screens. I am filling the marks and cutting out the molded screen to make way for some PE screen.
I don't like the kit side windows. The opening is not shaped well and the "glass" is thick and has sink marks. I am going to trim the opening and carve a place for scratch made side windows.
The engine turned out pretty good and looks much better wired.

Brilliant so far. Are the headlights just chrome pieces without glass? I hate it when they do that.

Good alterations! All kit supplied"glass" is too thick, we agree. Wheels look pretty detailed themselves. Best to you on the model!

Re: 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS
Thanks gents. It's a pretty well engineered kit Shay but it does have a couple of parts that are heavy handed when it comes to the molding.
Here is the box art. And my inspiration.
I got on a roll... The rear fender openings were a little plain and too small so I rounded them out a bit and added a lip.
I got the base silver on and then some very tedious masking and the red. Still need to let gas a little an then clear living daylights out of it.
The Fujimi hub assemblies look right at home on this kit.

Looks great Mitch, I like the colour scheme and combination. What did you use for the 'fiber glass'? It looks very convincing.

Clean work! Body color is interesting, red and Porsche is a different look!

Sarcasm? I've seen loads of red Porsches, probably the most popular color for a 911.
Curt, the fiberglass texture is actually the kit surface. I enhanced the texture on the wheel well when I pulled the extra styrene I glued in there to make the lip on the rear openings.
Carbs are done, and I got into the scratching and went ahead and make throttle linkage and fuel lines...
I took you advise and used a sifter to flock the seats Curt. They look loads better.
I got a lot done today. I start my new job Monday so today was a play day.
Here's the pictures. I still need to do a final polish on the body.
The gas tank cover up a lot of nice detail.

The flocking looks more to scale now Mitch. I really dig the side shot

Excellent build! The colour combo on the body is crisp and lovely. The mechanical detailing is wonderful, too bad about the gas tank placement. Beautiful work.
