1975 McLaren M23 and Ferrari 312T "RUSH"
Couple of obscure kits from Marui. 1/24 scale. I rarely build anything but 1/25 and 1/24.
The Ferrari has Duplicolor from the can for both the red and white and kit decals. The decals were badly yellowed but I couldn’t find anything that would work as replacements. For being 25 plus years old they were pretty good to work with.
I added wiring to the engine but with all the body work on you can’t see it.
The McLaren has Model Masters florescent red enamel thinned with lacquer thinner and shot with my air brush. The white is Duplicolor from the can. I used two sets of aftermarket decals and although the one set was for a 1/20 scale model, I think they look okay. I hate cigarettes and smoking in general but I wanted it to look like James’ car, so…
I scratch made the side view mirrors as well since the kit mirrors stuck out from the side of the body work and didn't look like the reference pictures I had. I also made extensions to the side pods behind the radiators.
The first picture with the flash is the only one that really shows the true shade of the florescent red. But the flash makes the rest of the pictures too harsh.
Not the best kits in the world but for motorized kits the detail is very good and I love that they aren’t the standard 1/20. I know why most F1 kits are 1/20 though, its because the cars look tiny but the thing is they are tiny in real life. The basically put a seat on the engine and attached some wheels to it so you could steer it. Man sized go-karts basically.
