Ferrari 312T
A friend of mine in the local model club proposed a build idea to me the other day. The concept is that we meet once a week and build the exact same kit at the same time. We will try to stay on the same step and if one of us has a problem, the other stops his build until the problem is overcome. The only time we can work on this kit is when we meet each week. We will also bounce ideas of off each other as we build. The idea came from two of his on-line friends that have been doing this format together for the last 25 years.
We compared stashes and came up with a kit we both agreed on. The Hasegawa Ferrari 312T Monaco 75 car. I'll be building the Lauda car and he will do the Regazzoni car.
We will be meeting every Wednesday nite. So this is one build that will not stall out....LOL. We met last Wednesday and got through de-sprueing and cleaning up of the first couple of steps. We also glued a couple of pieces together in preparation of painting them. Here is our progress. I just have to remember to take my camera to the build nite and take in-action pics.

Interesting project.
Do you also paint them at the meeting?

Re: Ferrari 312T
Mike, the plan is to do everything during the Wed build session. Unless we both agree on 'homework' to do.....like painting. We met in Derek's shop for the first session, which has an area where we can paint. For our next session the plan is to gather reference materials, since the instruction paint call-outs are a little suspect.

Re: Ferrari 312T
I have the T2 version Paul (pretty much the same car but without the airbox and airscoops below the windshield) so I'll be following your progress.

Cool idea! Reminds me of the other two ladies who come to our house on every Monday evening and quilt with my wife. They either work on their own individual projects, or do a common one together. They also have been doing this for years.
I'm smart, and disappear into the model shop in the garage!!

SO cool! Luv the 312 design. Some of the later ones, like the 126 C series didn't have the nice lines. Is that kit one with foto etched parts?

Re: Ferrari 312T
This kit doesn't come with p/e.....but Hasegawa does offer some as an upgrade. Derek has the p/e, but I don't know if he'll use it.

Great looking model, and a great idea. Something I wouldn't mind doing myself.

Re: Ferrari 312T
Thanks guys !
I missed an update on last weeks build session. Derek found some of the Hasegawa P/E upgrades and bought two sets. So we both will be using them.
He also had a couple of stes of Hobby Design wheels which I have decided to use. He's not sure if he'll go that way yet.
Here is the stuff that got cleaned up and assembled last week.
So on to this weeks up-date. First off is a pic of our build area.
And here is the stuff we got through.
I assembled one of the a/m wheels to see how it compared to the stock kit version.

Really cool Paul. I really like the idea of a weekly build session with a local modeling buddy! It focuses on the build at least once a week.

Hey, you're making progress Paul, even if it is late!! LOL
I have the T2 to do sometime.... what were the manifolds like to put together? Tamiya's DFV manifolds are a real pain.
Wheel looks good, can't wait to see the rears.

Good luck, take your time. Gremlins always seem to be nearby (the critters, not the AMC cars!).

Re: Ferrari 312T
Manifolds are simple...just the injector base and the trumpets. But they are not together yet..until they get painted.Skid wrote:Hey, you're making progress Paul, even if it is late!! LOL

Since Derek is headed to Texas for Eagle Quest this week-end, we did our build nite on Tues. We pretty much got the rest of the parts off of the sprues and cleaned up. We decided to do homework for next week. We will de-chrome the wing parts. I will be using the purple pond, and I think Derek will use oven cleaner.
Here is pics of the stuff we got through.

The masking of the white looks nice and crisp Paul.
Are the tyres in your kit solid rubber. Those in mine are and they are superb.

The tires are solid rubber and yes they are great. The white had better be crisp since its two pieces.
I finished my homework prohect....stripping the chrome pieces. A couple of minutes in this stuff and the chrome was gone !
