He does look better from a distance. I think the addition of eyebrows may help quite a bit.
Good job.

This is going to be a triumph Al, its brilliant. When you block in the uniforms the figures will jump into life.

Thanks both.
I think you are right Gary, even at this early stage, the uniform colour seems to 'lift' them!!!
Now I have a question for you. What should I use for a wash over the uniforms to highlight the material creases? The base paint is Tamiya buff.

The are coming along really nicely Al.
I usually create highlights and shadows using the base colour with a darker and lighter tone added.
Perhaps add a light sand for the highlights and a hint of black brown for the shadows. Very light coats. This is where a glaze medium really helps to allow you to build up the highlights and shadows slowly and keep them very subtle. Hope this helps.

Looking good Al! As for the highlights on the uniforms, one thing I have done for fabric detailing is to go through the wash process, let it cure for a good while then go back with a dry brush and the lighter tones very carefully added to just the high points of the rolls and creases. I learned that it's best to use a very diluted wash and go with multiple applications instead of trying to get it done with one pass.
Hope this might be of some use and I look forward to seeing the further development.
