A simple kit in 1:72 by Fine Molds. The kit allows for three different markings to represent subs used in Pearl Harbor Hawaii, Sydney Australia, and Kiska, Alaska. I chose the Kiska version. It is identical to the Sydney submarine. The Pearl Harbor sub had some notable external differences(propeller and torpedo shrouds, and submarine net cutting equipment.

As she was found by Allied forces on Kiska, circa 1943.

Great job, Cole. The rust weathering is fantastic. How was that applied - paint, powder?

Neat work! I, too, am curious about your chosen method of weathering (and if a flat clear sealant was used to make it look all the same dullness). In Chicago, there was a German U-boat on display at a museum, outdoors. Though not as Wintry as Alaska, after decades of "weathering" it was moved indoors to it's own space. Thanks for a cool model and a bit of history!

Cheers everyone.

Mike and Harron: After sealing the base color with a matte clear coat, I used AK Interactive Light Rust for green vehicles (AK 046). I first applied it as a wash. Then I went back with Tamiya enamel thinner to spread out the finish and build it up around the weld seams. AK recommends using White Spirit for thinning and cleaning. But the enamel thinner worked just fine. I did not clear coat after the rust was applied.

A flash photo shows the weathering a bit differently.
