F1-Lotus 98T Empty F1-Lotus 98T

Post by Guest Sat 06 Aug 2016, 7:42 pm

Unfortunately I only have this one picture. I built this about 8yrs ago, then gave it to a friend who is a huge F1 fan.

I used after market decals, beutiful decals that went down with little to no issue. I then clear coated the heck out of it with Tamiya clear and buff/polished and wet sanded it.

By this time in the relationship between JPS and Lotus it was appearant that the gold livery was too costly, and they had been using yellow. It is said that this shade of yellow actually showed up as gold on the TV screen.

I am sure some of you F1 fans will have a much more detailed account of the history of this livery.

I took liberty with the wheel colour, I thought it would look cool.

I will be doing another build as I have another 99T kit and conversation decals.

I had to chuckle, I noticed the beautiful tires first too! Front airfoil/spoiler also looks super. Is that the large scale Tamiya kit, or the 1/20th?

Gorgeous build! I always wanted to build this one but never got around to it during my brief racer phase - I got distracted by the Elf 6 wheeler, lol. F1-Lotus 98T 1705482731

Nice job Curt.

Was there much to do to retrograde the 99 back to the 98? Not that there is much difference anyway!!

Thanks Al.
The only thing I remember that was a big difference was the engines. The 99t is a v6 turbo, can't remember what the 98 was/is. But I do remember thinking the engine mod was too much work.
This is a simple curb side.

Both were 1500 V6 turbos Curt. I think they were pretty much identical.

Good to know, thanks Al. Now I can actually build another kit with the engine.
I guess I was just being lazy, lol, and didn't want to bother with it. I am not one to care much about mechanical facts, but appreciate the info just the same.

Cheers Gary. It will be great to do another. Of course that will be sometime off as there are too many builds lined up before that can happen.
