Eyesight worry
Hi all, sorry this is a long story,Im suddenly thinking I know why my models are turning rubbish putting 2 and 2 together. I went for an eye test yesterday. They do a pressure test, they did it 3 times as they didn't like the results and told me to go back in a fortnight to do the test again, then I did another test for my peripheral vision, which they did twice and have told me to go back half an hour earlier on my next visit so they can do the test again, if I fail the tests again they will be sending me to a specialist. The problem is in my left eye. 7 yrs ago (I head gardener, I say that there is only me now but at the time there were 3 others) and I stood on a rake which had been left the wrong way up (not by me) it hit me in the left eye so hard I lost vision in that eye so my missus drove me to a and e by the time I was seen my eyesight was starting to return, they checked it all over and asked if I drove I said yes and they said I was not to drive anymore till I had the appropriate glasses as my eyesight was below the standard to drive (I never even knew) now I'm thinking have I ruined my left eye, the optician seemed quite worried with the test results and I have noticed when modeling unless I'm right under the light I can't really see what I'm doing. I hope I don't loose my sight, that will really bugger my modeling up.

Re: Eyesight worry
Good luck when you go back for the tests Ken. For what it's worth I have no sight at all in my right eye.
Let us know how it goes and Ill keep everything crossed for a good outcome.

Re: Eyesight worry
Sorry to hear that....age creeps up on all of us as we get older(me included)that is one of the reasons I decided to try out some large scale stuff in the future...bigger parts are easier to see and handle. Still I cant give up my real love of 1/25th scale stuff...those require more patience and a magnifier at times. I am sure you will find a method to build that works for you too....keep your chin up.
Me I build with eye sight issues, nerve damage that causes my fingers to be less cooperative and have numbness in my fingers most of the time.

Re: Eyesight worry
I went through this sort of thing with the VA Medical System. After surgery on both eyes and new glasses, 7 months through the whole process. I ended up going to Walmart and getting reading glasses 5X to see to model better. Eye sight is important keep on top on of it.

Re: Eyesight worry
I was born with 'Watchmaker Eyes' (extreme myopia) so I've always needed specs. Ironically when it comes to tiny details I can resolve stuff that most people would need magnification to make out, but I have to hold the item about 3-4 inches from my eyes.
One thing I invested in years ago was a jeweler's flip down visor, odd at first but once you get used to it it is very helpful. Recently I splurged on a 'real spectrum' LED ring lamp with a huge magnifier which is also a huge help. I don't know if either of these is a viable option for you but I thought I'd offer the idea.

Re: Eyesight worry
Hi all just an update had all the tests redone and the lower quarter of my left eyes peripheral vision is missing they took a picture of my retina and all looks OK so I've been referred to the hospital but the pressure in that eye is high they think I may have to have eye drops to lower the pressure or I may have to have a small operation on that eye to releive the pressure (apparently the pressure distorts the eyeball and can have various effects this being one of them) so not a real worry either way.

Re: Eyesight worry
Take care Ken, hope to see more great builds from you. Keep us informed.
Our eyesight is one of the first things to start going as we age.
We all share your frustration. My eyes have gotten so bad that I am starting to wear them for grocery shopping. A year ago I only needed them for reading, and 1.5x were enough for building, now I use 3.25 and sometimes a pair of 1.5 over those for detail work.
Funny stuff Gary.
