............ a couple of days ago.

Blue, our last rescue horse of ten years ago, succumbed to a twisted gut. He'd had a good innings of course at about thirty years old but man I'm going to miss the old guy.

He was a real character, stubborn as can be when he wanted to be but also very gentle too.

Here he is the day after the 2015 flood. Photos taken by a friend.

Sorry to hear about that. It seemed very happy rolling about in the clarts like that.
My mother has a rescue pony. She got it thirty four years ago and it's still with us.

How nice a "pet" can have an enjoyable old age. Thanx to you and family for giving him a home and many good innings.

Surprising as it sounds there's just something extra over other pets that a horse can give to its owner .... Elaine knows this more than me as she spent all her younger days in the stables.

Sorry for the bad news Al, you must be gutted mate, but just think that the last ten years of his life was the best that he'd had.

25-30 years is the norm D, so 34 is ancient.

Blue was a working breed as opposed to a riding breed, hence he was heavy set. The photos show him in his thick winter coat. He hated being stabled (even in the depths of winter) and would almost kick his stable door down until I capitulated and let him out. He also hated being 'rugged up' and would have his rug trailing around his feet in half a day. I gave up on that in the end!"!! LOL

Rescue another one?

We have kept horses now for 32 years and the place now seems deserted somehow. Been thinking about taking in another rescue horse but I' knocking on myself now and while it's pleasant during the spring and summer, it can be miserable in the late autumn and winter. (humping hay and hard feed twice a day into the field and breaking ice on the drinker)

You got that right Colin.

Thanks guys.

I'm still pondering on taking in another rescue horse but I'm going to give it a month or so before making up my mind.
