Re: Star Trek Voyager
When I post a model build i always post it warts and all.
To save some time I ordered some prewired LED lights for
the interior to light the cut out windows. Having just got off the phone to said company I can confirm that they supplied me with 9V lights instead of the 12V wired lights I asked for. This means that when powered by 12V, the bulbs become extremely hot as they are being
overloaded with current. I should have tested for this before fitting but did not, for which I blame myself entirely.
I was testing all the lights for the saucer section and it looked amazing, however the overheated bulbs have caused irreparable damage to the upper section. Obviously the majority of the work done was on this section and therefore has been in vain. Anyone can make a mistake when sending things like this out to people and I hold myself responsible for two reasons.
1 trying to save time and effort by buying prewired bulbs instead of doing them all myself.
2 not testing the bought lights on the 12V circuit before fitting (I only checked them with a battery to make sure they were working).
I am quite angry with myself for a schoolboy error and obviously pissed off with the loss of five months hard work, and sorry for my friend Derek, for who the build is being done, as he will have to wait for me to catch up again. ALL the aftermarket parts have been reordered and as I have a spare kit I can begin work again immediately on drilling the windows out. I am going to finish off the base and light that (with bulbs I will wire myself) first and will post pics when done. I will also start posting the build again when I have caught up!!!!!!

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Man that really blows Garry. Don't feel so bad, I did something similar this past weekend. Didn't confirm the measurement of something I ordered for a friend upon taking possession. This might end up costing me 300$ if I can't push it back onto the supplier. They shipped the worng parts.

We really should pay more attention Curt,
I was suicidal when it happened and really laid into the guy at the shop, and feel a bit guilty now. Window drilling on Voyager Mk2 commences soon.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
That is a shame, I have made mistakes like that myself and can understand how you feel. I will wait until you get back after it, I was really enjoying following along on this one.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Ill be back on it straight away Buck. Would you advise starting a new thread from scratch or just wait until Im back to where I was then carry on here?
I don't think everyone will want to see it all over again from the start?

A real shame. Scottie messed up on engineering, don't blame the captain who's building it! We'll enjoy seeing things finally up and flying!

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Ive made a start on Voyager MkII H. The supplier rang me to tell me that the resistors they used were faulty?!. Im new to wiring etc but all the ones I did myself are working brilliantly.
To cheer myself up after I destroyed Voyager I, I've put some lights in the base. All we need now is a ship HAHAHA deary me!!! Voyager II is now in the shipyard and under construction.

Gary: AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
I'm sure I would have been suicidal at that point. This is more than a golly, gee whiz moment. Fortunately it looks like you will be able to do a save on the project.
Knowing you, I'm still looking for a museum quality finished project out of you though.

John, just started it from scratch but catching up now. Cheers.
Colin, keep pressing the forward fast button for me LOL, thanks for your support.
Curt, Thanks for the support, reborn is a good way of putting it.

Re: Star Trek Voyager
I know there is an overlap here but Ive decided to start the Voyager build thread again as I am very
close to where the first attempt crashed and burned. Only a couple of coats of paint away as the LED's are prepared for fitting. I have also sent for a kit which makes a sound PCB with a speaker and reads a micro SD card. Im going to put the Voyager theme music on the card and wire it to one of the outlets on the main remote controlled PCB. I have also sent for two flashing PCB's for the navigation lights and anti-collision beacons.
So here we go again!!
Ribbing attached to the photo etch windows.
All the photo etch attached (some with my new favourite glue LOL).

Iiiiiit's baaaack! And it's not quite deja vu - second tries always benefit from the experience gained from the first. She looks fantastic and I am anticipating what's coming up based on your previous work

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Great work Gary.
When construction is completed are you going to 'battle weather' it?

Re: Star Trek Voyager
Thanks Al, Ill just be doing some panel variation as my friend wants it nice and clean.
I may do a battle damaged Voyager with the other hull that was ruined in the future. Possibly cutting out sections and building the damaged decks inside.
