Porsche Boxster
i fancy doing a car for once, done too many tanks recently, and this was near the top of the pile so why not, always liked Porsches although not a fan of the Coxster
bit of story how i got it
about 18 months ago iwas perusing ebay as you do and came across someone about 10 miles from me with a large quantity of car kits up for auction...........snag was he hadnt put them in the right section!...so everyone else missed them and i got 8 or 9 kits for about 30 quid
so i went to pick them up and he had about another 30 kits ready to go on ebay.....couple of bin bags full sat in the corner next to his telly...so i had to ask where he got them, he was a bit cagey but eventually told me....he was a driver for a skip company and a week before he was emptying a skip and there was over 200 kits!!......his guess was someone had died and his widow had just skipped his stash!! so him and his workmates shared them out between themselves and he was putting his on ebay to raise a few extra quid......which was why he wasnt too bothered that i got all mine for a bargain price!
when i looked in the box i found a reciept.....who ever bought it payed £13-99, at Beatties in Newcastle (i still miss Beatties even today the one in Nottingham where i used to live was awesome) on 31st of December 1997.....so it had sat in someones stash for a long time!
this one was a bit rough.....the box had disintegrated with damp, the decals are ruined although i hope to salvage the emblem for the bonnet. i actually nearly started this a few months ago then put it back in the box
might be a day or two before i make a start but i need something to do........ive been off work on the sick for the last 5 weeks which is why ive finished quite a few projects recently,...im technically signed off til end of August.....monday im at the hospital.....they keep saying its a 'minor exploratory procedure' but im crapping myself (im having an angiogram)....not allowed to drive for 3 days afterwards and since swambo is registered disabled and cant get about we shall be holed up and not going anywhere.....stocked up on tea and biccys, plan is to watch lots of telly and get a Porsche built
not the original box......that disolved long ago lol

Re: Porsche Boxster
In real life ... the worst Porsche of the bunch in my kind, guy next doors got a 98 in silver.... I think I can get better performance just running off my starter motor lol.
Still ... seen this kit made up and it looks the business, looking forward to see what you do with it.

Re: Porsche Boxster
This once was vehicle dominated. Nice you could come down off that tank to do a secretary's sports car. Just skip the battle damage and camo, please.

Re: Porsche Boxster
Don't know why folks are so down on the Boxster. I have two friends who have them (the S model), and say they handle real nice. Just a pain to work on. I have never driven one though!
It will be fun to see how this one goes together.

Hi Paul,
Well Sir, never thought I'd live to see the day when a Rock played with a hairdressers car...

Re: Porsche Boxster
Porsche has always had a tuff time coming up with "entry level" sports cars for middle class drivers. the mid engine 914 in 4 or 6 cylinder mode and "boxy" look put many off. Porsche means power and a certain snob appeal. Any budget based car from Porsche would get more than its share of criticism. Odd that they named this one the "Boxster," when the 914 was boxy. I suppose its derived from the engine design, flat, opposed cylinder motors.
As to other than not so great power, they had things wear out quicker than expected and repair bills were anything but budget priced. Dunno about the newer generation of them.

Re: Porsche Boxster
We call them Secretaries cars. LOL. I don't care for them either but you see them everywhere. They sold a ton of them.

Nice work, Paul. The great thing about plastic models is you can own a lot of them without the need to complain about their mechanical and driving problems.

Re: Porsche Boxster
Thats a nice deep looking blue mate..... It does actually look a simple enough kit from the chassis photo...
I might just get one and reproduce my neighbours car as a prezzie.

It looks great. Hopefully we will see this as the beginning of a car building trend, eh Paul?

Re: Porsche Boxster
Well Porsche did design tanks, so there's a connection 'twixt car & tanks here. At least with the boxter
they managed to get the engine infront of the rear axle.............
Great blue too.

Re: Porsche Boxster
and finished....not been able to get anything done all week since ive gone back to work and ive just been too tired to get to the bench
had some problems towards the end........decals were trashed.....i hoped to rescue the porsche and boxster emblems and the rear brake light but they were just too far gone, and i dont have anything suitable in the decal stash, so ive had to go without
also the 'glass' came out cloudy when i dipped them, very odd
and my own cock up was the mirrors.....suddenly realised i forgot to paint them when i did the body shell! and since the shell had @5 coats there was no way i was going to get the shade right, so i went for the old back up.....if in doubt, matt black lol lol
more pics in the finished thread
