Racer's Wedge
The 'wedge' had been sitting round for years, so when I decided to rebuild the GMC pickup, I thought...............
Lets extend the chassis, fit a lazy pusher axle & use it. The pickup was a 2000 build, got a full make over.
New paint, wheels, engine detail.
Decalled it last night, some BMF to come in the very near future. Over all I'm happy with it.

Works for me! All it needs are a few decals...and a racer!

Colour it decaled. I'll probably use either a Vega or Camaro funny car on it.
It least it will free up shelf space that way.
Cheers,
Chris

Expect some pics by the end of the weekend (Brisbane time). Beavering away with the BMF & having the dreaded paint lift off.
Only in some small patches. Annoying, though.

Re: Racer's Wedge
I looks good Chris.
I've thought about buying this kit before now. What is it like to build?

Re: Racer's Wedge
Al, the 'wedge' came with the 'Open Road Camper'.An ancient AMT (?) kit resurrected by Model King.
I got it through Modellers Roundup.
You'd be able to adapt it to most American pickups.
Not sure it the wedge is available on its own, if its too expensive, I'd scratch build it.
Simple kit. I added some filler panels under the tool compartments at the front, and also panelled some open areas at the rear. No real issues. The front compartment doors are hinged, the hinge brackets are long gone, ditto the ramps.
The pickup is a '72 ish GMC, short wheel base stepside. Since it was getting a makeover, I decided to use up the wedge which had been loitering around for several years.

Re: Racer's Wedge
You got a lot further than I did. I started one in '05 with a Ford 350. Seemed simple enough.

Re: Racer's Wedge
Max cool! The wheels (Cragars?) look perfect and spruce up the truck. I envy the guys who do things like scratching an entire wedge. Some guys have added great detail. Yours will be great with a racer aboard, thanx!

Cragars, because they were the only wheels I had 6 decent examples to pick from!
I'll do a bit more tonight I think.
Chris.

Hi Mr W,
Loving the look even more now Sir, I also agree with Mr H above, those wheels really do finish the look...

Re: Racer's Wedge
That looks good Chris. I like the way the rear is lower and the front higher, to reflect the weight of the car. Nice touch.

Re: Racer's Wedge
LOL. It still looks right though Chris.
That happend on my first completed build on my return to modeling about 12 years ago, so I just dumped some stuff in the bed to reflect weight!! LOL.
