1/16th CHP Model A Police Sergeants Car.
First of all, an apology.
In my final post in the WIP thread, I said I was abandoning the build until after my Bonneville trip. Well that was a white lie/ruse suggested by Shay, to put John off any potential scent that I might be bringing it with me.
The build started life, set to be a stock Model A. Then I found some photos on the web of a restored CHP Sergeants car and it occurred to me to replicate it and send it to JohnJ, as gift to my very special friend.
But then things developed further with a trip to to USA to see John and take in Bonneville Speed Week, so I had the perfect opportunity to present it personally to him in his own home.
It was a long and sometimes troublesome build, (particularly the bases of the A pillars) but it was all worth while to see the look on John's face when I gave it to him. Words cannot describe it.
My thanks must go to Dave (From Pleasanton) for researching and coming up with the correct period CHP badge, without which the build could not have bee properly finished. Thanks Dave.
My thanks must also go to John for getting them printed for me. Thanks John.
Lastly, the kit came with Just one California license plate. Correct I believe for a standard road car but I'm informed that the police cars had them at the front and rear. However, John is going to print a pair of period plates and mount them to finish it off properly.
Not going to say any more about it, but here is the link to the build WIP if anyone is interested in finding out more about it. Any questions feel free to ask, here or in the WIP.

Re: 1/16th CHP Model A Police Sergeants Car.
I have to say THANKS to Al one more time. The idea that he would bring this model with him had never occurred to me. Also the idea that he would give me the car still leaves me somewhat speechless. I don't think Al really understands just how much this and his friendship mean to me.
As an aside to Al, Trish and I have been discussing it and I do think there is a real chance we will be landing on your doorstep sometime in the next year or so.

I saw this build in person at West Wendover. Very nice work Al. A true winner. The detail of the mechanical brakes with all the linkages was superb.

I Watched in awe on your WIP of this, truly marvelous, I bet John was very very happy with it and it takes pride of place on his mantelpiece.
3 hours to do the linkage on one side, needle spark plugs.. WOW!!!!!
Seeing things like that puts me in 2 minds.. Give up now or try harder.... I like doing models so I must obviously try harder
Excellent build Al, dont think you could ever top that??

Thanks guys.
Ash, the day I think I can't top a build, is the day I will give up. May that never happen.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SKID.
I am not normally into that era of car but this is just so nicely done that I keep going back to look at it.

Hi Al,
WOW...(nuff said)
Please all, I mean no disrespect to everyone else, but, this has to be the best model I have seen to date after coming back to the hobby, if I could get one of my models to look even a quarter as good as this Sir, I would be extremely happy...
Andy...

No false modesty allowed Al. I didn't build it, you did. All I was was the messenger. Besides that I GET TO KEEP THE CAR!!!
