Re: Austin gasser to respectable street rod
It appears to have worked.....with a little effort.
I will now reveal the secret ingredient I used for the headlight covers. Remember, I had to french them because I had no 40 Ford rims?. I didn't want them flat. I discounted clear plastic spoons for being too thick. I blew $6 to give these fake fingernails a try. They have a slight pinkish cast, but I can live with that! Probably there is something neater and easier out there, but as Tina Turner says in 'Proud Mary', " I never do anything nice, and easy"

My intake plate has a distributor hole behind the riser. That's why I'm going to the back with it.
The front has a alt. at the lower right. I don't rightly know what that round thing in front of the left valve cover is supposed to represent. I don't mind 'imagineering', so whatever it is .... I'll leave it and pretend it's an automatic tranny shifter or something. Maybe I can pretend its a fuel block and plumb the carbs to it ?
Clay, not that it matters (it's a model after all), but in US V8s the deepest part of the oil pan holds the oil pump which runs off the same drive as the distributor. The hole in the intake manifold should be in the front of the engine with a distributor stuck in it. The bumps on the valve cover was the oil filler. The real engine had a big timing chain running over the front so they couldn't use the regular oil filler tube that came out of the front of the engine near the distributor. My guess is that the model company just used a standard water pump front cover assembly that had an oil filler tube and then made the SOHC heads and valve covers and called it done.
OBTW, brilliant work. Glad you went with the bronze over the primer.

Wrapping this baby up. Chassis interior parts installed. Just doing the things that will go in the body shell. Window glass, door panels, and dash. Should have finish fotos by the weekend.

Nice. The finished chassis in the background rocks also.

Clay, this one looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it all together. Buck is right, that chassis in the background looks great. The stance is perfect.
