Animal House 'Deathmobile"
I decided to re-create my build of this here because I have an idea on how I want to do part two. But first, Part One: The Deathmobile
This should be a fairly simple build since there are only 19 pieces to the kit. It's mostly resin with two metal pieces.
I'll start by cleaning up the flash on all of the resin pieces.

Thanks Buck
Well, the easy part is done. All the body parts are painted semi-gloss black. I'll wait for the parts to gas out before adding the red and white accents.

Clay, you need to watch the movie...it's hilarious !!

I started on the red with a paint pen, but the results were not satisfactory. It did not have enough contrast. So I have been going over the red with Tamiya paint using a brush. I also started on the white with the first coat.
The chassis is rather thick and putting axles in meant drilling through 2 1/2 inches of resin. So I cutt some wire into short pieces and insert them into the chassis.

Love this one Paul. Animal House is one of my all time favorites. I'll be following closely.

Re: Animal House 'Deathmobile"
Thanks guys
The painting on the body and turret is almost done. After seeing it on the preview, I realize I still have more touch-up to do.
I also epoxyed the tailfins on.

All the parts are done. Now it's time to start epoxying things together.

LOL...this is the first time I did this kit....it's on a comeback because I've got a good idea about this....coyote wrote:Love this movie.......I said that the first time you did this kit.
Now Part Two:
I cut some lite cardboard into a shape I thought resembled the cake in the movie.
I found some fringe material for the bottom edge and some yarn for the letters and highlites on the frosting.

Re: Animal House 'Deathmobile"
I thought you finished this one LOL. Do you remember the scene when Bluto took careful measurements of the windscreen and then took a hammer and smashed it into pieces. That's the philosophy you should develop for this one.

Re: Animal House 'Deathmobile"
That was a great scene,, LOL
After looking at this screen shot from the movie, I realize that my first try is too narrow. So I'll use it as a test bed for frosting attempts.
While reading a tutorial by Coyote on eScale about water effects, I realized this same technique could produce a suitable 'frosting'. So I found some of this stuff at Michael's and brushed some on the test bed.

You got it Chris.....hopefully it will be great..
I didn't like the way the first attempt at frosting looks. So I tried a slightly different technique and I think I hit on it. Comments?

Re: Animal House 'Deathmobile"
I've been inspired since the model show yesterday to work on something and I think I hit on a way to make the letters for the side. Here is the first run. It's a little crude, but the float was made by drunk college crazies, so 'crude' might work. lol
I've freed it from the tape and have it in the garage drying from a coat of red spray paint. By tomorrow I'll know if it's a go!!

The cake looks good. Did you use Sheetrock mud?
