Matchbox Narvik destroyer

I used this old kit to test a range of Lifecolor acrylic paints. Lifecolor produces two boxed sets of paints for the Kriegsmarine of World War 2. I primed the Matchbox kit with Tamiya primer and then painted the ship using a paint brush. They worked beautifully, none of the problems that can be had when using a brush with Tamiya acrylics. This is a dated kit with all the problems that come with that, so basically just a test for the new paints.

 

You and Buck sure make nice display pieces out of real basic kits. More power to you !

  

I would like to build the Airfix HMS Ajax, which my father served on during the war.
I've found a couple on Ebay in the past - but I always get outbid.
.....one day I'll find one (at a reasonable price) - hopefully.

Paint test or not, it looks great Chris.

My dad was on HMS Romney during WWII. Just found this on Wiki:

Looks great to me Chris. So the paint test is a success. I've got Lifecolor for the Mossouri.

Pretty basic kit, but interesting as an experiment. When I built some WWII stuff I remember looking for "dunkelgrau" I thought that was the color of coffee after dunking a donut.

I wish we lived a bit closer, would like to have coffee and doughnuts and talk about this.

Wow! Was your dad involved in the Graf Spee battle. I built an Airfix Ajax for a old guy who had served on the HMS Leander.

Chris -my father was on the Ajax, - but it was after the ship was repaired from the Battle of the River Plate action.
He served on her until 1942 when he joined the Royal Naval Commandos.
