Model A coupe
I have wanted a model A coupe for quite a long time to build on. Several months ago, I was able to get one. I stashed it on the shelf while I did a couple of other builds.
I really like the 20s and 30s cars , and thought about building this A just as ol Henry rolled it off the assembly line. In fact, all the time it sat on the shelf, I gave thought to it many times of the ways I would like to build it.
Time has now come to crap or get off the pot. Hot rod has won out ! I’m half ashamed of the sloppy things I let go by on the woody, so this will be simple, clean, and as well built as I can go.
I was trying to think of all the flathead stuff that I must have in the stash, as I took the box from the shelf. Opening the box, I discovered that I had stashed parts for a Hemi, and a set of big n’ little resin wheels and tires in there! Wow, senility does have some good moments occasionally !
Looking harder at the stuff, I like the wire big ’n littles that came from the woody kit, plus they go right on woody’s dropped axle that I didn’t use, and fits right on the coupes frame. So the resin ones will go back in the tire stash.

Re: Model A coupe
I've got one of these in my stash that is going to be built stock, which is extremely rare for me. But I'm going to get another one when funds allow to do as a Hot Rod. Before and after builds you might say. I love those Woody wires, if only we could by them seperately.

Re: Model A coupe
Not real thrilled with taking one of the few classic Model A kits and bashing it. It would seem a hot rod could com from another kit. Certainly not something I would do, but it's your car. Good luck with it.

Revell is supposed to be doing a re-issue of this kit. So there should be a lot of them kicking around soon. I know how hard this kit is to come by right now. Been looking for a couple.

Re: Model A coupe
You guys are right. Sure hope there will be more coming. I never was one for hoarding rare kits, or any, for that matter. Like I said, there are dozens of ways I would like to build this model. Bone stock was high on the list.
OK. To get the wheels tucked up under the front fenders I removed 1/16 of an inch from the already dropped axle. Everything fits great so far.

Cobbling up a rear kick up to get the back end down. Using some aluminum tubing.
So much for the "Keep It Simple, Stupid" plan !

Goin' an tad slowly, but here is an update. Cobbling a simple 4 link. This will be minimally visible thru the opened trunk lid, I'm not using the rumble seat :)

Re: Model A coupe
The radiator is being mounted on the rear kick up. I about have that all set up. Meanwhile, the engine mounting is getting some attention. I already knew it would be limiting the room in the front,(hence, the rear mounted radiator). The lower pulley, what ever that was for, was limiting the forward placement of the big Hemi, so I decided to just eliminate it.
I can slide the engine a little more forward, but I will still have to recess the firewall about a quarter of an inch.
Mocked with front wheels and cab.

Re: Model A coupe
The 4 link looks great and the engine is looking sharp too. Moving those firewalls can be a pain at times but you'll make it work.

Re: Model A coupe
I am thinking do the firewall. The only other thing would be a smaller engine. I can't see that happening.
