1955 Mercedes 300 SLR
May 5th, 1955 in Italy: Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson win the famous 1,000 miles "Mille Migla" race when they average a record 157.65 km/h in their Mercedes 300 SLR. Other spectacular successes followed with the "Tour d'Effel", the British Grand Prix, Swedish and numerous other race-events. At the "Targa Florio", Mercedes secured for themselves the 1955 manufactures championship. The 8-cylinder in line engine is made up of two 4 cylinder blocks and delivers 300 hp. With a maximum speed of about 300 km/h, the Mercedes 300 SLR completely outperformed the competition.
With all that said I want to add. "It's Done". For those of you that followed the OTB you know of the problems I had. Really the decals were the only bad part. When I tried to clear over them they ran, like the ink wasn't sealed or something. Someone said they looked burnt they looked burnt. So that led buying another kit and making decals for the first time. Al offered to scan a set and email me the file but by then I already had a bid on one from E-Bay, blah, blah, blah. Anyway it's all done.
I want to thank Al for sending me this kit and apologize for taking so long to build it. According to the letter that was in the box he mailed it November 13th 2004. (I wonder if that was a Friday) Al you were 100 % right I did learn a great deal by building these cars. The history on the 722 and the 300SLR in general is awesome and well worth reading.
This car is a striking display piece. The detail of the kit, the colors on the car. Just awesome. I think I will enter it in couple shows next year and see how it does. 8-)
Here are the pictures.
Thanks for looking in. I am on my way to restore a Camaro. ;)

It's good to get out of the comfort zone sometimes and stretch your modeling legs.
You did a great job on it too!!

Buck, you knocked this out of the ballpark! The plumbing and electrical is outstanding! These are some magnificent cars and you sure brought this one to life. Everything is spot on my friend!

Buck, you may have had some problems but you turned out a jewel. I expect you will do well in the shows you enter.

Thanks guys. This build has done very well. I have won several plaques with it and it was published in Model car Magazine last year. It is a subject I never would have picked. I am glad my friend Al, sent it to me and enlarged my cave. :lol!:

A superb kit and you improved on it to boot! Worthy of its awards. The inclusion of the seat pattern decals really adds to the overall appearance. I have felt the windshield seems a bit off, but otherwise from frame on up it's a jewel and you polished it to perfection, thanx!
