Chevrolet Cruze (1.6T) 2012
I'm getting a bit bored with the seemingly ENDLESS clean up on the MPC McLaren M8D, so I have decided to finish one of my 'pre-started' kits and have chosen this one.
This is where it's at right now. Text taken from the now defunct ASM site.
Curbside kit, which shouldn't take long: (LOL... it was started on 15:02:2020)
The rear bumper is a darker blue and needed masking. So I thought I'd try an idea shown to me by a member on another site a while back.
Masked the demarcation line with Tamiya tape as usual but then masked off the rest of the body with cling film:
Using the cling film was SO much easier to apply and SO much easier to remove than any other way I have used in the past.
There are several 'electronics' boxes moulded into the floor and unfortunately, so is some of the wiring. And of course it looks awful.
It's not really feasible to remove it and I fear painting the 'tops' of it would look equally awful.
SO...... I'm attempting to add my own wiring by going over the top of the moulded in stuff. So far, so good.
Well 'shouldn't take long' turned out to be 11.5 months!!! LOL (Now read 38 months. Ha!)
Anyway, I finished up the interior. I used the kit seat belt decals (ugh!) and for a bit more detail, I made some rear belts from masking tape.
For anyone consudering this model, be aware the the front of the roll cage 'down pipes' are way out of line and I'd advise installing the roll cage BEFORE the dashboard as per instructions. In this way you will be able to bend the down pipes and at least make them fit even though it may not be accurate.

Hi Al,
Looking very nice so far Sir, I've never thought of using cling-film before for masking, I've always just used kitchen roll and tape...

You must be a glutton for punishment to add all those internal lines, but It does look good.
This is a kit that I’ve not heard of before - but didn’t Chevrolet Cruze’s run in British Touring cars, for a while ?

Re: Chevrolet Cruze (1.6T) 2012
Thanks all.
However, I managed to knock the body off the bench then damaged it when I rolled back my chair to retrieve it. Worse.... the the rear lights have gone missing!!
So it's back in the box AGAIN.

Hi Al,
Well, that sucks, is the shell saveable...
Just a passing thought, could you not make your own, fill the inside with some styrene card, paint it silver and then clear red/orange and then fill the hole are with some UV resin (hope that makes some sense...

Re: Chevrolet Cruze (1.6T) 2012
Andy........ yes it is recoverable but right now (for my 'comeback' ) I feel the need to simply get somthing finished.
Shay.....
Maybe Mclarens aren't meant to be for me. The M8d you sent me, the AM M8a that I made a pigs ear of whilst trying to get those stupid engine braces in and the M7a that took a tumble off the shelf and shatterd into a gazilliom pieces.

Re: Chevrolet Cruze (1.6T) 2012
I think I know why you have returned to the Cruze, Al - because it has become a classic !
For the couple of years they were sold in the UK, they didn’t quite reach popularity - and there can’t be too many on our roads today.
.....waiting to see how it all comes out.

Re: Chevrolet Cruze (1.6T) 2012
I spoke to early about the decals being delicate. The roof decal was OKish, the big side decals were delicate but these ones broke up in the water:
This is where they are supposed to go:
Fortunately, I scanned the decals to my computer, so should hopefully be able to print new versions!!
If not sucessful, I may have to attempt to paint those sections in by hand!!!!

I don’t know of any printers that print white, but you can buy white decal paper, Al.
Print the outline onto the white, but you need a steady hand to cut them out with a craft knife - but do-able.

Ouch. Between cling wrap and decals, maybe start another. They do say that third time...
