When I first saw this kit, I knew that I had to have it - because this was the first real motorcycle that I ever owned.
Given to me by my next door neighbour when I was fifteen, it had sat in his shed, unworking, for more than four years. He knew I was into cars and bikes, and gave me it to ‘play’ with. Over the summer school holidays, between my 4th and 5th years, myself and a couple of pals, tinkered, repainted, stripped and repaired the 350cc bike just working with old copies of Motorcycle Mechanics. Then, after one of the lad’s dads came over and spent a day with us setting it up the machine, it fired up, and we rode it up and down the back garden of my home. John Narey, one of the lads, and son of the father that helped us, wanted it so much that he offered to buy it off me for £10 - but I stuck out for fifteen. We both walked away happy. I put the money towards a more modern James Captain a few months later.
I’ve tried to detail the machine as I first remembered it, but I may have overdone the rust and patina. It’s a good kit, if a little delicate in places - and the springs offered in the kit could have been more robust and sturdier to scale, but overall I would recommend it. It comes with all the wartime accessories too.

I've taken care of it for you Ron. When I went into edit mode there were several sizes of text code thingummiebob's scattered throughout the text. Don't ask 'cos I don't have a clue why. Anyway, I took them out and reposted.
I would agree with you on the saddle and fork springs.... way out of scale but I think you got the patina spot on. Well done.

It's a really good build, great weathering. Plus the fact you have a real connection with the 1/1 bike.
