I was working at British Leyland Dealership when these cars came to America. Man-O-Man never a dull moment.

I dare say you were kept busy as the factory quality control was in the range of zero to bugger all.Zbuckster wrote:I was working at British Leyland Dealership when these cars came to America. Man-O-Man never a dull moment.
But not as bad as the Austin Princess, have a funny story about that for sometime...

HA HA! I'm smiling because it reminds me of one of my ancient models, the old Datsun 510. I put a blown V-8 in it, but that was for the strip only!
So sad that REAL British cars faded with the times. I remember hearing that in the '60s some production levels were so high and above demand, a number went from factory floor to parking lot to the scrap yard. Add quality control problems and the home grown cars are fewer and fewer.
Still, "the wedge" as U.S. ads called the TR-7 was a cool looking car for a time, thanx!

When I lived in England there was a local actor by the name of Peter Cellier.webby wrote:Great stuff, Arni. What's the Princess story?

He was completely approachable and liked to chat so I mentioned to him that I saw a clip of him in a motoring show,he told me that the clip was from an advert for the Princess that was filmed in France with a NEW press car.....
Well during filming there was a close up as the car rolls towards the camera and as it did so the grille badge just fell off and hit the deck! The crew were in hysterics at this, but it got worse...
There is a scene where they stop for a hitcher and they opened the door.Well the top hinge bolts were ''loose'' and the door dropped downwards.
By this stage the French film crew were rolling on the ground in giggly snotty heaps and had to cancel filming for the day!

I was dreading reading this one when I read the subject..... Then I remembered who was in charge of proceedings. This is likely to be the most substantial TR7 ever made. Nice start and there's no such thing as overkill when modifying a TR7

Re: Monogram Triumph TR7.
The ole Triumph! This one is lookin' better than the three I acquired over the years. Can't ever go wrong with a HUGE V8 peaking out of the hood. I've seen this in 1:1 several times and it's a big improvement over the HumDrum plain jane look. LoL Great work!
Yes! I bought one for $200 US and somehow over a course of 6 years I ended up with 3 more. Now they sit in Drummonds, TN and my God Son bugs me all the time about them. I've tried to unload them off on someone else. LoL

LOL Dan.
Jason, for $200 that's about £128 over here you would not have got one even during their 'old scrap car' stage never mind nowadays...LOL

Today I decided to flare the rear arched a bit,it was done in the same way as the 69 Camaro I did a while back.So to start as the Monogram plastic is a bit in the hard side I drilled two holes front and rear to stop the plastic splitting, then scribed between the holes and then wedged some thick plastic card between the split. This was liberally coated with superglue and then filled in with bondo.
Then it was wet sanded down and given a test coat of primer,it still needs some more work but is getting there..

We in the U.S. had some quality control issues too, from angry Corvette union workers back when to a man who told me his brand new '70s era Dodge pickup had the radio fall out when he drove over railroad tracks. No wonder the worker had so many screws left over at the end of his shift!
Happy motoring!

Re: Monogram Triumph TR7.
LOL
The motor trade has always been troublesome,I have heard stories about B.L. cars coming back to the dealers with a complaint of a rattling door, only to find a coke tin inside the door!
Yet,while I was working for Ford there were workshop mistakes, like one time there was a car in to have a broken passenger rear window replaced and I drive it out of the workshop and inspected it in daylight...
The car had privacy glass fitted but the new window was clear..
So I parked it up and went into service and asked someone to come out and tell me what was wrong with it,slowly the penny dropped!
Damm,I loved playing devils advocate in that place.

Truth, I saw a '47 or so orange colored Plymouth with the same texture paint, called Orange Roughy! Still, since it's primer it will get smoothed out. The wheel "blisters" you created here and in the past are pure genius. Thanx.
