Porsche 1/8 scratch build
Hi all well some of you will know with the move I have a new job and that job is working at a company which restores classic porches at the moment there are 16 different porsches in our workshop worth 27 mill I'm sooo loving the 904 and would love to build one. I've never done a scratch built car ( loads of ships but never a car) I have no idea where to start but the average turn over is 3 months so plenty of time for measurements I still have to get a modelling area but negotiations are going well. Any suggestions where to start with making the body.

Re: Porsche 1/8 scratch build
Hi Mr K,
Firstly, congratulations on the new and exciting job, as for the shell, maybe use clay to make the shape and then use it to make a mould and then use resin or something, other way, maybe use some different thickness' of stock polystyrene sheets, sorry if these aren't of any use, Sir, sorry, I've never tried to build a shell from scratch...
I really hope both go well for you...
Andy...

Re: Porsche 1/8 scratch build
Of all the things I haven't done, scratch building a 'shell' is near the top of the list. The complex curves of a Porsche body make the process that much more challenging - my initial instinct for a build of this scale would be to go the route Andy suggested by using moulds for resin casting.
Best of luck with this and congratulations on what sounds like an awesome job!

Building it in 1/8 scale would mean just about everything would be scratchbuilt. There are 904 models still available in 1/24 and 1/32 and I thought there was a 1/16 by Entex years ago. Good Luck.
