Unless there's a crazy complicated engine and chassis you're pretty much done. LOL Nice colours for this one, it all looks clean!

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Thanks guys.
I masked up the window glass with ordinary Tamiya yellow tape which I've used many time before. Cleared then gloss blacked.
When I removed the tape, the black edges were sharp enough but the clear had crept in places, most noticeably at the leading edge of the windscreen. But worse, the tape glue appears to have eaten into the plastic.
I thought at first it was just glue residue and that it would come off with Meths as usual, but no!. White spirit doesn't work either.
So now it's in the BF bath.
If it still doesn't all come off it will need to be polished out. In which case it will have to go back in the box until I can get to my polishing kit in the container. Probably a few weeks.

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Hi Al,
WOW, never had that happen before with the Tamiya stuff, do you think the clear might have affected it some how, I've never used clear to seal tape before so I wouldn't know...
I'm sure you'll get it sorted...

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Well you did as I and others do .... So what's different with this bit of plastic?
It's certainly a strange one eh, still ... i have the upmost confidence in your ability to correct it.

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
That is very strange Al, very strange. It was coming along brilliantly too. I wonder if it may have been a chemical reaction with the acrylic and the tape adhesive. Could you contact the kit company and have a new part issued?

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Thanks guys.
I have never masked and cleared coated to seal clear parts before so it's all new to me but it does appear to be some sort of chemical reaction.
Curt..... I'm sure Revell would send me a replacement and I will do that if needed.
It's in the brake fluid now for 24 hours so we shall see what we shall see.

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Clear coating to seal edges is a must when doing anything with fine detail, it shouldn't (and hasn't for me) have any effect on the clear plastic really.
If you hadn't already got it in a BF bath i would have suggested lighter fluid to get the sticky residue off ... it works better than white spirit and meths as it has a lower flash/evaporation point so doesn't lay on the surface so long and is highly effective in dissolving adhesive and gum .. just use with kitchen towel applying fluid to the towel first.
Lets hope it's salvageable and a replacement isn't needed.... less irritation/impatience for you waiting for the part to come through lol

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Really you never use clear? You sure have had a long string of good luck Al. I clear the edges of everything I tape. Hope Colin is right.

Hi Al,
Does the brake fluid not harm plastic, if not I will have a chat with the chap in the garage I use if he has some old stuff, does it have to be a certain DOT or will any do...

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Andy, it doesn't harm the plastic in any way.
Just avoid DOT 5 as it's silicone and doesn't work.
Shay.

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Al did you use automotive clear for this? If that's the case that is likely the problem here.

Re: 1991 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Good point Denis, that could be what has happened. Lacquer can be nasty stuff.
